Friday race from Tullamore in Co Offaly – Top 8 for Owen Markey

Race three for the young birds from Tullamore was brought forward again due to a bad forecast for Saturday, birds were race marked on Thursday evening and released at 9.15am on Friday 4th August in a Lt Westerly wind, high and broken cloud at release site and sunshine up the middle of Ireland. Birds romped home again and another fantastic result for Owen Markey of the Ballyholland Club in Newry. This loft which has already topped the NIPA in the young birds had the Top 15 in Sect G and a host of NIPA Open positions including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th followed by the 1st Sect E winners A Feeney & Son of Gilford & District HPS with just short of 17,000 birds competing and winning velocity 1635ypm. The RPRA (Irish Region) have extended the time to submit claims to Saturday 19th August. The Region Secretary Noel Higginson states that they are particularly short on mileage claims.

Jimmy Rock best in Combine from Tullamore –

The NIPA moved to Tullamore in County Offaly for their third young bird race of the season. The birds were liberated on Friday 4th August at 9.15am in westerly winds. Harryville's Jimmy Rock had the best local bird this week and also topped the Mid Antrim Combine on velo 1439. Former young bird National winner Jimmy timed his blue cock at 11.49am flying 126 miles to the lofts in Albert Place in the Ballymena Town. Sire is from his 1st Open NIPA Talbenny YB National winner when paired to his 1st Open NIPA Penzance OB Classic winner and the dam is a direct Van Den Bulck x Jacobs from Oroory Hill Stud. Jackie Steele of Rasharkin was runner up in the Combine on 1428 with a black pied hen bred from the best of his C & C Lambrecht family. This winning hen being a granddaughter of his good 38 cock. Bertie Blair was best in Ballymena & District for the second week running and placed 3rd in the Combine on 1426. Bertie timed the same cheq cock that won 2nd club and 2nd Mid Antrim Combine from 1st Kilbeggan. The cock was bred from a pair of P & D Van den Bulcks acquire from the late Lexie Mullan. Gary Gibson had the clear winner in Cullybackey on 1418 timing 7 minutes in front of the next man. His winner a dark Lambrecht hen was bred by Derek Parr. Taking 5th spot in the Combine was the Ballymena runners up K & K Kernohan & Sons. Keith timed the same blue hen that won 1st club and 1st Combine in the opening yb race from Kilbeggan. This one a Willy Jacobs x Emiel Dillon youngster was purchased from Oroory Hill Stud. Geoff Surgenor was best in Kells & Dist for the second week on the trot on 1412. Geoff's winner was gifted to him by good friend Bertie Blair. The sire won 5th Open NIPA Skibbereen Inland National and was also club bird of the year last season while the dam was Van den Bulck from Lexie Mullan. Young & McManus & Sons had the top 3 positions in Ahoghill with their winner doing 1411. Paddy & William timed a chequer hen the sire a direct Lambrecht being a double grandson of Superke and the dam is an Alex Docx, Daughter of Bolt. Stewart Bros on 1402 were best in Randalstown for the third week in a row timing a cheq pied hen sitting eggs 4 days. This one was bred from birds acquired from Martin O'Neil of Larne.
