2nd Roscrea YB - Sunday 20/08/23

Post by willie reynolds »

Roscrea Double for Nelson Weir of Loughgall -

The NIPA race five had bee planned for Gowran Park and despite a vote by the members to continue with this race it was decided at the last minute to proceed with a second race from Roscrea. There have been major concerns in Southern Ireland regarding birds going over either Dublin Airport and the Baldonnell air base and at the request of authorities in that area to move from Gowran Park to a more westerly site well clear of both airports. Details from the IHU were released following a meeting in Dublin.

The IHU South Region executive committee are proposing the following emergency measures which will be in place until the next Delegates Meeting where they will be put forward for acceptance.

- No training releases allowed for any loft in Dublin or north of Dublin on the N7/M7/M9 at any time. This includes City West, Naas, Kilcullen, Carlow, Athy, Newbridge, Curragh, Kildare, Castledermot, Portlaoise, or any point in between, if there is any chance the birds may travel near Baldonnel.
- - Lofts north of Baldonnel training only allowed north of the M4 or east of the N11 (coast).
- - Lofts north of Baldonnel training only allowed along the N81 to N11.
- Organised trainers must inform their customers of the training release point. The onus is on the customer to know where their pigeons are being released from. It is not a defence should one of your pigeons be identified as causing a problem that you don’t know where your birds are being released from.
- - Any member breaching these rules will be expelled for life from the Union.

This is our last chance to sort this problem ourselves. If it continues the Irish Aviation Authority will take action. There is already talk of regulations being introduced. Once this happens it could mean the end of racing in the Dublin Area.

I am asking club secretaries in the Dubin Area to print this e-mail, put it up in your club and bring it to the attention of all club members.

At Roscrea for the second time, it was similar to the previous week, a fast race and 1st & 2nd Open NIPA won by Nelson Weir of Loughgall, the winner this week was placed 10th Open in 1st Roscrea. Fantastic result for Nelson Weir with two birds ahead of a big early arrival into Muckamore and winner of 1st Sect B for T Patterson & Son former Nat & Derby winners and still using the T3 clock.

Mid Antrim Combine 2nd Roscrea -
Shane Johnston of Ballymena & District tops the Combine from Roscrea.

The NIPA continued their racing season with another race from Roscrea in County Tipperary. Birds were released on Sunday 20th August at 8.15am in southerly winds and another fast race followed. Shane Johnston & Son of Ballymena & District had the clear winner in the local area timing at 10.15am for the 147 mile fly to their lofts on the Doury Road to record 2155ypm. Shane's winner flying at a speed of 73.6 miles per hour easily won the club and town by 9 minutes and finished 1st Mid Antrim Combine, 2nd Section B and 5th Open Nipa with 16, 981 birds competing. Shane's birds have hit form (must be the garlic) and only last week the loft won 2nd & 3rd in both the Combine and Section and 12th & 16th Open Nipa 17,805 birds. Joshua's bird was bred by top racing and breeding loft's of Paddy & William McManus. Sire is a son of the Bad Handler cock and dam Louis Thijs. Joshua would like to thank Paddy and William for breeding him the winner and for all the great advise and help they have given him. Well done Joshua a future star. Jonathan Barkley and Laura Surgenor had the best bird in Kells & District on 2059 and placed 4th Combine. Their winner a home bred mealy pied lambrecht cock was bred from birds acquired from Johnny Simpson of Broughshane. Jackie Steele of Rasharkin took 5th spot in the Combine with a black Lambrecht cock bred from a son of the 02 cock when paired to a sister of 38 hen. Other winners include S Crawford best in Harryville on 2044, Stewart Brothers best in Randalstown on 2003 with a Vandenabeele cock that won last week and Gary Gibson the Cullybackey winner on 1977. Sire is off a direct Van Vugt Donckers cock a g/son of Jackpot x a daughter Danny Dixon's good 2nd Open cock and the dam is a daughter of Gary's Golden Couple hen x to her g/son.
