The local show season will commence as usual at the end of October early November. Good to report that this year will again include a series run by Kells & District, details of all the show programmes should be sent to Homer for publication.
Kells & District club show beginning Wednesday 1st of November with Old Cocks t/w, 8th November Old Hens t/w, 15th November Young Cock t/w, 22nd November Young Hen t/w, 29th November Mated Pairs young and old, 6th December Fancy young and old, 13th December Eyesign young and old and previous Card Winners. Penning will be from 7pm to 8pm. The annual 3 in 1 Open Show booked for Boxing Day 26th December 2023. Contact Jonathan Barkley of Laura Surgenor.

Belmont Winter Fair – Saturday 11th November doors opan at 10.00am. Venue Shorts Recreation Club, Holywood Road, Balfast BT4 1SJ. Food and drink available at bar. Ballot & Prizes on the day and small draft of birds for auction. Good selection of trade stands. Entrance fee £5.00.

Cullybackey show series commenced on Saturday 28th October with classes for old cocks and old hens through wires. Penning from 7pm to 8pm. Last night the show season kicked off in Cullybackey HPS with old cocks and hens through wires. An excellent turn out of birds and fanciers with 8 fanciers penning a total of 112 pigeons. The judges came from the North Coast with Sean Diamond and Paul O’Connor ‘tasked with picking the card winners.

Mid Antrim Shows - Cullybackey HPS held their 2nd show of the season last night Saturday 4th November with an amazing turn out of birds and fanciers with 12 fanciers penning 154 birds for young cocks and young hens through wires, a hard class of birds to be judged by Robert Alexander from Ballymena. Thanks to all who came to show and of course a thank you to Robert for coming and judging both classes. Congratulations to all card winners. J & J Greer won Best in Show for the second week having the Red Card in the Young Hens, while the record Irish National winner Alan Darragh penned the winner of Young Cocks.

Rasharkin & District hps held their first show today 18th November old birds through wires and old birds Handled. The judges for the event were Bobby Coyle who had a super season racing in the Coleraine Premier and Chris McCook from Ballymoney HPS. Willy Gilbert from Ballymena & Dist collected the Red Card in the Through Wires while J & J Greer from Cullybackey had 1st and 2nd in the OB Handled.

Duddy Bus to Blackpool show 2024 - This year the trip to Blackpool will be organised by John McConaghie (Ballymoney) and Robert Turkington (Doagh). Due to personal circumstances Alan Shanks is unavailable to organise this years trip which runs from Thursday night 18th January 2024 to Monday 22nd January 2024. For those going a £50 deposit (non-refundable) paid to John or Robert by the 15th November 2023 and the balance by 31st December 2023. This year’s changes are necessary to streamline the running of this long-established pigeon trip, also those going will be responsible for obtaining or ordering their own show tickets but, these can be bought on the day of the show. As in the past the bud will leave from Ballybogey travelling through Ballymena, Doagh and Stena Line for the boat to Cairnryan. Hopefully the show will be back to full strength this year. INFC Charity Show to be held on the Saturday 2nd December 2023 in Lagan Valley Leisure Plex Lisburn BT28 1LP. Show opens at 9.00am. The auction of pigeons, donated by many top fanciers, kindly sold by Sawyers Pigeon Auctions at 4.00pm. Entrance fee is £5 sterling, with entry to draw for Kit of 2024 Young Birds, kindly donated by K. Rooney & Son.

Duddy Bus to Blackpool show 2024 - This year the trip to Blackpool will be organised by John McConaghie (Ballymoney) and Robert Turkington (Doagh). Due to personal circumstances Alan Shanks is unavailable to organise this years trip which runs from Thursday night 18th January 2024 to Monday 22nd January 2024. For those going a £50 deposit (non-refundable) paid to John or Robert by the 15th November 2023 and the balance by 31st December 2023. This year’s changes are necessary to streamline the running of this long-established pigeon trip, also those going will be responsible for obtaining or ordering their own show tickets but, these can be bought on the day of the show. As in the past the bud will leave from Ballybogey travelling through Ballymena, Doagh and Stena Line for the boat to Cairnryan. Hopefully the show will be back to full strength this year. The young bird show for Rasharkin & District was held in the local clubrooms on Saturday 25th November another very good turn-out of members and friends. Both classes were judged by John Millar & Ian Stewart from Randalstown.

Cullybackey Open Show 2023 - Cullybackey HPS held their annual 3 in 1 Open Show on Saturday the 16th of December, with a great turn out of birds and fanciers. In total 17 fanciers penned a total of 245 birds. Thank you to everyone who turned up and made the show as big as it was. I would like to send a massive thank you to Frazers Animal Feeds (Banbridge) who sponsored the prizes for all the card winners this year again, I would also like to thank the members who brought raffle prizes and contributed to the show in any way, either on Saturday or throughout the 7 weekly shows we held. I would also like to thank the judging team of Norman Lewis, Claire Kelly, Noel Higginson, Eddie McCaw, Robert Wilson and Davy Strain from East Antrim for coming along and doing a fantastic job for us, their task was not an easy one with so many quality birds on show. The final club show for Cullybackey was Eyesign classes for Old Birds and Young Birds held on Saturday 9th December, 122 birds were penned. Marc Neilly from Broughshane won the Red Card in Old Birds and Brian Herbison for the home club dominated the Young Bird class with five cards including 1st and Best in Show. The judges travelled in rom Broughshane Alistair Purvis and Colin Kennedy.

Cullybackey Open Show 2023 - Cullybackey HPS held their annual 3 in 1 Open Show on Saturday the 16th of December, with a great turn out of birds and fanciers. In total 17 fanciers penned a total of 245 birds. Thank you to everyone who turned up and made the show as big as it was. I would like to send a massive thank you to Frazers Animal Feeds (Banbridge) who sponsored the prizes for all the card winners this year again, I would also like to thank the members who brought raffle prizes and contributed to the show in any way, either on Saturday or throughout the 7 weekly shows we held. I would also like to thank the judging team of Norman Lewis, Claire Kelly, Noel Higginson, Eddie McCaw, Robert Wilson and Davy Strain from East Antrim for coming along and doing a fantastic job for us, their task was not an easy one with so many quality birds on show. Marc Neilly from Broughshane won the Red Card in Old Birds and Brian Herbison for the home club dominated the Young Bird class with five cards including 1st and Best in Show. The judges travelled in from Broughshane Alistair Purvis and Colin Kennedy.

Kells Open Show on Boxing Day -
Kells and District held they're open show returning this year on the usual date of Boxing Day. Tuesday 26th December 2023. Our open show was 3 in 1 old and young. What a great turn out of fanciers and pigeons and a great show was held. 15 fanciers showed with a great amount of 276 pigeons penned. Thank you to every single person that turned up to support the show and making it such a success this year.
A massive shout out goes to Frazer Feeds for supporting the show another year with supplying prizes for card winners in every class. Your support is greatly appreciated as always. Thank you also must go to everyone who supplied raffle prizes for the show to support the club and supported in anyway, your support doesn't go a miss. This year our judges, we are pleased and honoured to say that we managed to get some of the top men taking top NIPA honour's regularly to come along and judge for us. A prestigious quartet of Davy Calvin, Philip Calvin, Stevie Eglinton and Bob Buckley from the Portadown area. The men were keen to get judging and they done a brilliant job. Judging 276 pigeons was a task and they done it very well and efficiently.
