Scottish National Racing Pigeon Club

2010 Dinner Dance & Presentation

Our annual Dinner Dance and Presentation of Prizes took place on Saturday 30th January once again at our usual first class venue the Cairn Hotel Bathgate.

This is our 5th year at the Cairn and each year they seem to surpass the previous year with their excellence, this year was no different the meal and service were exceptional.

I think it is appropriate at this juncture to thank our President George Wilson our secretary Jessie Keir and our junior vice President Ian M Brown for all the hard work and effort that takes place in the background leading up to stage an such an event.

We would like to offer our special thanks to Ian’s wife Audrey who is responsible for the flowers and table decorations which helps to give the evening that special touch of class.

Our principal guests this year were David Bills the general manager of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association and his wife Janette and Pam Grange the secretary of the UP North Combine and her husband Neil.
Both Pam and David are great ambassadors for the sport, their speeches were excellent and they carried out the presentation of the various awards with distinction.

Both couples seemed to enjoy themselves greatly and were evident on the dance floor on several occasions, although it has to be said David did seem to loose his way one or two times during some of the more intricate reels.
Both the RPRA and the UNC are both in good hands with Pam and David at their helms.

Also at the top table were Les Blacklock President of the RPRA and his wife Merel and Ian and Aurdey Brown.
Les and Merel are ever-present figures at our functions and enjoy their weekend in Scotland immensely his kind words during his speech were greatly received by the members and guests.

The presentation this year ran ahead of schedule, which is surprising due to the additional presentation of the 21 Champion Awards.

The SNRPC Gold Medal

The Scottish National Racing Pigeon Club’s gold medal is flown for annually from our premier distance race, which for the last few seasons has been from Reims in France approximately 550 miles into central Scotland.

This fantastic prize valued at £1200 is won outright by the first open winner and not only features the clubs crest but the race winners name on the medal and is a truly quality piece of workmanship.
When you take into consideration that this valuable memento is theirs to keep as a reminder of their great achievement of that particular year, apart from the one loft and futurity races it must rate as one of the best pigeon sport prizes to be competed for in the country.

The gold medal winner was S H & E Butterworth of Haddington and was presented by George Wilson.
The ovation Harvey received from the crowd proved the high esteem in which he is held by everyone in the club, there could not have been a more popular winner of this premiere race.

2010 Champion Awards

Peter Virtue and John Ellis two of Scotlands greats were asked to come forward and receive their Gold Champion Awards for their pigeons winning 5 times from the channel.
John Ellis was asked to remain on the floor and present the silver and bronze awards, this was a nice gesture from the club as John (I’m sure he wont mind me saying this) is one of our most respected and elder statesmen of our sport.
The winners were:
Silver: Peter Virtue, Dennis Dall, Robert Nisbet, Wilson & Jack , John McNeill,
Bronze: Peter Virtue (2) J&G Caird, W Mitchell & Son, John McNeill (2), Ian Lowe, Garry Hall, Stuart Young, John Mack, Robert Nisbet, Ian Ross, G&E Archibald, Gordon Campbell.

Congratulations to all our winners of the various awards.

The President brought the official part of the proceedings to a close by inviting the junior vice president Ian M Brown to say a few words; Ian cares deeply about the SNRPC and carried off his closing speech with great sincerity thanking a number of people for their efforts during the past season. The dancing and festivities carried on into the small hours and another great night was enjoyed by all.

The next important date on our calendar is the AGM held on the 13th February at Newbridge Bowling Club, 1pm.
