Mid Antrim Combine Penzance Yearling National (INFC) – C & R McIntyre 1st MAC
The first channel National of the Irish National Flying Club was flown on Wednesday 12th June. The 3,086 entries were released at 8.00am in light north westerly winds and another tough channel race followed. Father and son partnership of Chris and Robin McIntyre had the best bird in the Mid Antrim Combine after timing their blue cock at 16.02pm flying 347 miles to the loft's in Dervock. The lads who race in the Cullybackey club and have a good channel record over the years finish 9th North Section and 12th Open National winning £525. Their winning cock sitting on chipping eggs is full brother to 6 x 1st for the loft including their good 5yo blue Merit Award winning cock, a winner of 52nd Open & 64th Open INFC Friendship National 493 miles. He is also a full brother to winners from Talbenny and Rosscarbery young bird National's. Another top result for two decent and likeable fellows.
Runner up in the Combine was Anthony McNeill of Randalstown who finished 21st & 49th open winning £746. Both bird's were bred by Geoff Dickey of Farmview Loft's. The first bird is off a Stefan Lambrechts cock that carries Porsche Vroom bloodlines and has has bred 5x1sts. The dam is from their good cock Redstar who is responsible for many 1sts prize winners. While racing Redstar won 1st Section & 15th Open in the Nipa yearling cock National. The mother of the dam is their No1 hen "Wonderful", she's responsible for many winners including "Buster"1st Mid Antrim Combine & 1st Open Mullingar. Anthony's second bird a blue hen feeding a 2 day old chick again contains the best of the Dickey Donckers including "Wonderful" the No1 hen at Farmview Loft's and Gary Gibson's "Golden Couple" Anthony's blue hen won 87th North Section & 99th Open in the INFC Penzance young bird National last season.
Next best was Stephen & Natalie Doherty of Portglenone who also race in Cullybackey Flying Club. The Father and Daughter partnership timed a blue pied hen sitting on eggs and was slipped two chicks on the Friday before Monday basketing. The dam "Natalie's Girl" was gifted by Alistair McNaughton of Cushendall. She is dam of 8th MA Combine & 238th Open Penzance Yearling National 2022 and grandam of 13th MA Combine 243rd Open Talbenny YB National 2022 and 11th MA Combine, 14th Section & 143rd Open Dale 2024. The sire is Jan Aarden bred by Cedarwood Loft's. The loft's had an excellent team performance being placed 24th, 71st, 199th, 261st & 285th Open National with the 24th & 285th birds being the same way bred. The Doherty team who have only been racing three years had 7 birds home on the night from 8 entries and already have won some top positions including this and last season 1st Mid Antrim Combine & 11th Open INFC St Malo Friendship national. Stephen and Natalie would like to thank Mr & Mrs Connolly of Portglenone for their kind generosity for allowing them the use of their field where the lofts are erected.
Ace racers and breeders Paddy & William McManus had the best bird in Ahoghill and 28th Open National. This blue w/f hen sitting eggs 12 days won the club from the Skibbereen Inland National earlier in the season and contains their top Van Den Brande lines. The dam is half sister to "Sammy's Girl" 1st Open INFC Penzance YB National for Martin Graham having the same mother. "Sammy's Girl" was bred by Paddy & William last season and purchased in a kit by Martin and Sammy Steele. The sire of their 28th Open hen is a grandson of "Indy" of Falco Ebben. Alan Darragh was next best in the Combine and had another good National result being placed 39th, 194th, 207th, 215th & 234th Open National.
Bertie Blair was best in Ballymena & District and had the best bird in the Town finishing 102nd Open. Bertie's pencil blue cock is father and daughter pairing. The Yearling Nat was the usual hard test although having said that the cool conditions at the home end resulted in a reported return of more than half the entry making it one of the best races in recent years. Good to see the entry get above 3,000 birds and this despite the marking arrangements not suiting many of the membership. When the Yearling Nat was added to the INFC programme we had no idea it would have been as successful as it has turned oud, one of the best supported on the programme and the Nelson Corry Cup presented to the winner, Nelson was a long-time Chairman of the INFC. Very well done to all those who made the result worthy winners Mooney & Keogh from the Dublin North County, 1st South Sect last season in the Penzance YB Grand Nat and now 1st South Sect again and an unforgettable 1st Open INFC. Glen Buckley & Son from Annaghmore were the loft in form in the NIPA 1st & 2nd Open in both races from Dale, and 1st & 2nd North Sect here to win the 2 Bird Average and will collect the Sam Buckley Memorial Trophy at the annual presentation.
The race was sponsored by Beattie’s Bird & Pet Foods and three bags of mixture won by 1st RPRA G Buckley & Son vel 1304, 1st IHU North J Trimble & Grandson vel 1288 and 1st IHU South D Mooney vel 1311.
INFC Race Report by Homer
1st South Section & 1st Open INFC Penzance Ylr Nat D Mooney of Dublin North County, vel 1317 flying 23 miles winning £1,987 and the Nelson Corry Trophy.
Dick Mooney & Anthony Keogh what a day it was for them yesterday. Congratulations lads a dream come true. 1st National Penzance Yearling National INFC 3,000+ Birds. This hen has already hit hard last seasons 2023 winning the South Section in the young birds INFC National. She's has a heart of a loin. She was well pooled all the way plus winner of €4,500 from the Trim RPC nominated bird. Delighted to have the lads training with myself. That's 2 x 1st INFC winners in the last couple of weeks reported back. I was glad to hear back from the lads. Thanks for the feedback. Eddie Barry PO.
Firstly I want to thank Dick Mooney for giving me this opportunity to work with him. It was especially great working with this hen for the last two years. First year - 2nd Club & 38th open ISRF Dale then 1st South Section & 28th INFC Young Bird Penzance National
Second year - 1st National Penzance Yearling National INFC. She has other cards on the land in the club as well. I would like to thank a few lads for putting me on the right road. First is Trevor Cahill for breeding me birds for the last few years and this hen was one of these, Mickey Concannon and Robert Conannon (Derry) for teaching me a lot about feeding and what to look for in long distance and Cross Channel racing birds. They introduced me to Dave Mawhinney, I travelled up North with the team of birds seeking his advice on the year ahead. These men are pure gentlemen, and I would like to thank them for all their help. I walked into Dick Mooney’s loft two years ago and I have really enjoyed my journey. Anthony Keogh.

The grand sire of them is our Number 2 breeding cock the Golden Balls cock a gaveart from Gary Tomlinson who dares wins U.K., golden balls was paired to a double granddaughter of kittle from John angwin Cornwall, which produced THE GOLDEN CHILD, The golden child was paired to a direct Frankie de Gendt hen which is a sister to Frankie’s super Blauw 716 winner of 16x1st prizes and 5th national ace pigeon kbdb Belgium 2020. The same year Blauw 716 won 5th national ace, her mother fast 612 winner of 14x1st prices was 12th national ace pigeon kbdb all of Belgium. With us racing the Roland Janssens pigeons for many years now we knew the Frankie de gendth pigeons would suit us as he and Roland race in the same province with similar results, dad and I would just like to thank our good friend Jan van Bentum for sourcing us such quality pigeons from Belgium and Holland. 28 hens racing record and the golden balls cock the gavaert pigeon g/sire to the 28 he was sire to the 59 hen Ther Champion ace pigeon Arklow Utd 2023 young bird and over all single bird average winner points on the sprint. 4th North Sect & 6th Open J & D Braniff of The Glen HPS, vel 1297 flying 311 miles winning £1,025.
We timed a cock racing on roundabout, he's always been consistent and flew Dale as a young bird. His sire was bred for stock out of our No 1 stock pair, an his dam is a daughter of our good Drum hens, these lines have been fantastic for us down Ireland and right through to Penzance. Partners were best in Muckamore Centre in the earlier Skibbereen and best again in the Yearling Nat two great race cards returned. Thanks, David, for the info, fantastic season.
5th North Sect & 7th Open Mr & Mrs B McNeilly of Doagh & District HPS, vel 1294 flying 321 miles winning £808.
The ever consistent M/M B McNeilly from Doagh are regular visitors to the Muckamore Centre, best bird again in the big competition of East Antrim. She is a pure widowhood hen where the cocks stay at home. She had one race as a youngster but well trained. This year she had all except the 2nd Dale. She is coming down from Double Top who was 1st and 2nd Open in the NIPA and won the NIPA Young Bird of the Year that year and the DE 22, and that won 6 x club firsts mostly from the channel races. Forgot to put as well the sire and dam have both been 4th in National races. Sire is a son of Double Top and the dam is a daughter of DE22, winner to winner. Robert Turkington PO.
6th North Sect & 8th Open John Connolly of Ballymoney HPS, vel 1288 flying 350 miles winning £92.
The pigeon that won it Adrian is a blue w/f cock, raced on widowhood Sire - louella gaby Vandenabeele. Dam - was gifted to John by clubmates D & H Stuart, which contains the best of the Lambrechts lines, this hen was responsible for over 10 first prize winners for John. When paired to a son of Johns good Corbett Busschaert cock which he himself was 3rd Open Yearling national. The son himself was also first club, first section Penzance and Penzance classic being Johns only bird entered. Them 2 pigeon on the the dam side reared the mother of the cock. Adrian Moffatt PO.
7th North Sect & 9th Open John Trimble & grandson of Annalongg, vel 1288 flying 274 miles winning £531.
Having taken 1st and 2nd North section in the Skibbereen Old Bird National, John Trimble and grandson Zac continued their rich vein of form and were 7th Norrth sectio9th Open in the Yearling National from Penzance. The pigeon timed here is a chequer hen racing roundabout. She is 100% Luc Vervoort from Ian Gibb & Son, Glenavy. The sire is a son of ‘Miss Nicole’, one of Ian’s best breeding hens, and he is a half-brother to the sire of the 1st and 2nd North section Skibbereen Old Bird National this year. The bird timed here has been a great racer, having been 1st club, 7th East section Dale as a young bird and then the following week she was 1st club, 2nd East Section, 5th Open East Down Combine from Macroom. This year she was 5th club, 5th East section and 5th Open from 1st Tullamore on a day when John and Zac took the top 7 positions in the Open result. Brendan McLoughlin PO.
8th North Sect & 10th Open K Murray of Killyleagh, vel 1274 flying 296 miles winning £622 and the Charles Ingle Memorial Cup for 10th Open INFC.

The Blue tip cock won 2nd Club from Fermoy beat by loftmate and then from 1st Dale he had 1st Club and finished 3rd in the NIPA Section F. The sire was a winner of 3rd Club 1st Talbenny followed by 1st Club 2nd Talbenny both races in 2023.
The dam being "Faith" 1st Open Nipa Talbenny YB National in 2019 and has now bred 4 x 1st prize-winners. The sire is a Lambrecht son of Danny Dixon's "Aviary Cock" when paired to a daughter of Danny's "Heartbreaker". This cock has bred Bertie 3 x 1st Nipa Open winners in the past season's. Other's to be placed in the Open result include Neil & Steven Anderson of Cullybackey 122nd Open, Mr & Mrs Robinson Cullybackey 135th, 184th & 222nd Open, J & J Greer Cullybackey 140th Open, Joey Wright Ballymena 149th Open, D Dixon Rasharkin 152nd, 241st & 275th, Stewart Bros 170th Open and G & A Eagleson Cullybackey 209th Open.
1st & 2nd North Sect and 2nd & 3rd Open G Buckley & Son, Annaghmore, vel 1304 and 1304 flying 301 miles winning £685 plus James McGrugan Memorial Cup for 1st North Section. and the Sam Buckley Memorial Cup best 2 Bird Average.

His sire was bred for stock out of our No 1 stock pair, an his dam is a daughter of our good Drum hens, these lines have been fantastic for us down Ireland and right through to Penzance.
