NIPA Sect D Round-Up - Fermoy 15/05/10

Post by willie reynolds »

Section Honours Yet Again for Ian Gibb & Sons

The NIPA for the sixth race of the O/Bird programme where in Fermoy, Co.Cork, this the last race prior to the NIPA Inland O/Bird National to be flown from Rosscarbery followed by the INFC Inland National from Skibbereen. I must commend the hard working NIPA Secretary Fred Russell for keeping the results up to date, which is no easy task, when these are received in paper format within one week of any said race being flown they are typed up for inclusion in the results Section of the BHW, each Open result including Sections in all take around 3 hours to type, and do command a large amount of space within the results pages every week to which we would like to thank the Editor and Editorial team for the excellent space supplied for this coverage, also not forgetting the coverage given also by the Racing Pigeon weekly with regards the Results.

The NIPA enjoyed excellent racing once again and this surely must be one of the best starts to any racing season in recent years, with as yet not one hold-over or delayed basketing. The NIPA liberated at 10.30am in a brisk West Wind with expectations on the ground that we where in for a quick affair. As we go to press it looks very like the inform loft of 2010 Ian Gibb & Sons flying with the Derriaghy HPS are going to collect Section D Honours for the second time this season, with this their sixth consecutive success in the Derriaghy Club, it was a smashing weekend for the loft as they also top the Glenavy & District HPS for good measure. The Gibb lofts sited on the Old Park Road area of Lisburn are home to the massive and acclaimed Gibb & Byrne Stud, with the vast array of lofts easily seen from the surrounding roads. A great land mark for the pigeons to spot but they have to navigate around large electricity wires which surround all area’s of the garden making life a little more difficult and training a complete nightmare, especially at this time of the year when training youngsters also, numbers have to reduced when letting any of them out to exercise, the loft timed this week to record 1st Club Derriaghy and 1st Section D NIPA as well as a top twenty Open position a Blue Cheq cock who was just re-paired up on Wednesday evening.

He is a Van Dyck/Koopman this one being a G/Son of the world famous ‘Tips’. He was recorded at 13.55pm flying 185 miles following a couple of laps of the loft. Just to mention he has been re-paired to the hen that he took to at the start of the year it happens to be the Mealy hen that finished 30th Open last year in the Penzance Y/Bird National for the loft, on a velocity of 834ypm, when only 155 birds made it home in race time. The hen is being pre-paired for a race coming up, and has been repaired for this purpose, just happened to kick the cock into action, although he has been knocking on the door when competing this year having been the Gibb Lofts third bird timed in the Glenavy Club last week. 2nd pigeon timed by the loft at 13.58pm was also racing with Derriaghy HPS this being the super Blue Cheq Yearling Cock who has now scored 5 x 2nd and a club first to his name to date, finishing twice second Club and a youngster and now 3 times 2nd this year including winning the Club a fortnight ago. He is the best of the Vink lines at the Gibb & Byrne Stud. Excellent racing by the inform loft within Lisburn currently.

Sect D Clubs Fermoy

Derriaghy HPS 9/256 – 1st Ian Gibb & Sons 1589, 2nd Ian Gibb & Sons 1570, 3rd Ricky McCullough 1569, 4th Ian Gibb & Sons 1549, 5th Ricky McCullough 1540, 6th Ian Gibb & Sons 1534. What a start for the Gibb loft, six races past and six wins within the Club, can they go all the way? Ricky is working hard at trying to halt their charge with a couple of good arrivals in the prizes this week.

Lisburn & District HPS 29/701 – 1st Spence Bros 1588, 2nd Spence Bros 1587, 3rd R Topping & Son 1559, 4th S Briggs 1558, 5th A & T & J Houston 1552, 6th Spence Bros 1551, 7th Willie English 1545, 8th B McKibben 1544, 9th C Coates 1543, 10th C Coates 1540. Brian & Roy are having an excellent year once again and are just pipped this week for Section D Honours, with a couple of very good arrivals from Fermoy it was a winning day all round for the loft as they topped the strong and very competitive Ulster Federation affiliated Lagan Valley RPC, Trevor Topping is third Club ahead of the consistent Sammy Briggs and the equally consistent Houston loft continuing to put good arrivals into the clock this season to date.

Colin HPS 11/261 – 1st J Gregory and sons 1582, 2nd S Rice 1581, 3rd J Gregory and sons 1554, 4th S Rice 1553, 5th J Gregory and sons 1549, 6th J Gregory and sons 1546, 7th J Gregory and sons 1545, 8th Mr and Mrs G Braniff 1537, 9th G Shaw and son 1533, 10th O and M Monaghan 1530. Super flying yet again by the Gregory boys, this now their fourth success of 2010 to date, this weeks winner is a blue yearling widowhood cock and is again a brother to their double section winner from 2007. Another full brother to this cock has also won 2 x 1st’s and a 2nd this season finishing 3rd section from Roscrea. Sean Rice has consistently performed well this season and ran the boys very close this week only 1 yard behind in runner-up spot, Sean timed the same pigeon that finished 5th Club last week from Clonmel this being a yearling Blue Cock racing Natural.

Dromara HPS – 1st Cromie & Magee & Son 1582, 2nd Cromie & Magee & Son 1567, 3rd McKinstry Bros 1566, 4th McKinstry Bros 1566, 5th Mr & Mrs Stevenson 1547, 6th Mr & Mrs Stevenson 1541. Excellent race for the Cromie & Magee team, who have them in fine form in the lead up to the INFC Skibbereen National in just over a weeks time, a race the loft won last year with ‘Maries Dream’ last weeks NIPA Section D winner Arthur McKinstry, takes the next couple of place with Bobby & Fiona Stevenson also clocking a couple of good arrivals to complete the top six.

South Belfast 9/133 – 1st Rab Fear 1579, 2nd Rab Fear 1578, 3rd Rab Fear 1549, 4th Rab Fear 1543, 5th Audley & Dougan 1542. Third success of the season for Rab, certainly living by his name the man to Fear at the minute, outstanding performance once again by the loft with the first couple of arrivals set to feature well in the over-all Section D result, and will finish nicely in the Open result also.

Dromore HPS 15/521 – 1st Mr & Mrs Gerald Delaney 1594, 2nd B & M McCorriston 1577, 3rd Mr & Mrs Gerald Delaney 1575, 4th P & J Boal 1575, 5th P & J Boal 1575, 6th P & J Boal 1574, 7th Doonan & McGuinness 1565, 8th P & J Boal 1564, 9th B & M McCorriston 1560, 10th Jeff Greenaway 1559. Superb winner here for the man who seems never to be to far away from the headlines at the minute Gerald Delaney, this one will feature very highly in the over-all NIPA Section G Result as it will in the over-all Open result with a probable top ten finish. Nice to see Mo McCorriston climbing the leader board finishing a good second in front of a second arrival for Gerald with the in form and consistent loft of P & J Boal taking the next three positions ahead of the ever present Doonan & McGuinness. You could write a page every week just on the Dromore result such is the quality of fanciers within the Club, the current Section D Fancier of the Year starting to make a move also I see.

Dunedin HPS 11/202 – 1st Mark Foulis 1574, 2nd Mark Foulis 1554, 3rd G McCartney & Son 1551, 4th Mark Foulis 1547, 5th Mark Foulis 1546, 6th G McCartney & Son 1544, 7th Mark Foulis 1543, 8th Mark Foulis 1542, 9th Paul McClean 1533, 10th Robert Cowan 1531. What a race for Mark Foulis his first of the year with the Dunedin HPS, with a superb eight in the first 12 of the result including 1st & 2nd with the first one likely to feature well in the over-all Section and Open result, it turned out to be a great day for Mark who also races with the East Down Combine affiliated Dundonald HPS where I here he has finished 2nd Open in their Skibbereen Derby event also flown yesterday. Geordie McCartney continues to wait on pouncing, knocking on the door for the second week on the trot. Many thanks two Ian Hawthorne for his kind words and all his help to date in getting the result on sharp and supplying photos.

Hills & Maze HPS – 10/261 - 1st A & R Milliken 1568, 2nd E & K Lavery 1563, 3rd C & E Mallon 1552, 4th H Jennings & Sons 1544, 5th A & R Milliken 1543, 6th A & R Milliken 1537, 7th Carson Lyons 1537, 8th Carson Lyons 1536, 9th Lavery Bros 1535, 10th J Milliken & Son 1534. The Red Card this week goes to Andy and Ryan Milliken, the father son team have their team in superb form this season racing in both the Hills & Maze and the Ulster Federation affiliated Lagan Valley RPC a Club the loft topped last week finishing 3rd and 7th this week.

Glenavy & District HPS 18/487 – 1st Ian Gibb & Sons 1563, 2nd Paddy McGarrity 1557, 3rd Paddy McGarrity 1554, 4th S McLaughlin & Sons 1554, 5th G Parker & Son 1551, 6th A McAllister 1549, 7th Paddy McGarrity 1545, 8th Ian Gibb & Sons 1544, 9th S McLaughlin & Sons 1541, 10th S McLaughlin & Sons 1539. Topping the Glenavy & District HPS for the second time this season is the loft of Ian Gibb & Sons coming out in front of last years top prize winner and the ever consistent Paddy McGarrity who finishes 2nd & 3rd ahead of a good card from the progressive Stevie McLaughlin & Sons partnership who have a total of three in the first ten of the result. The Gibb loft timed one of their famous Soontjen family, the winner being a Pencil Blue Yearling Cock raced on the roundabout system he was timed at 13.59pm flying 185 miles, he is a G/Son of the ‘Wazir’. So far this season between both Glenavy and Derriaghy the Gibb loft has recorded 8 firsts and all different Red Card winners at that.

Glenavy 2 Bird Club – 1st A McAllister 1549, 2nd Ian Gibb & Son 1511, 3rd Gordon Parker & Son 1507.

Kingswood HPS – 15/315 – 1st C & J Long & Son 1549, 2nd E Burton 1548, 3rd C & J Long & Son 1543, 4th J Carson 1542, 5th C & J Long & Son 1532, 6th W & R Evans & Leahy 1532, 7th W & R Evans & Leahy 1532, 8th R & J Conlane 1531, 9th J Galbraith & Sons (Junior) 1528, 10th E Burton 1526. What more can I say about Colin Long, simply superb racing this season this now his fourth success in six races, Eddie Burton continues to run him close in second spot but in the form that the Long loft is in, I suspect he will be doing all in his power to stay at the top of the leader board once again next week.

Kingswood 2 Bird – 1st C & J Long & Son 1543, 2nd Eddie Burton 1532. Hard to keep a good thing down, I hear the winner of the 2 Bird for Colin is the winner of the DTW and Nom including the Pools last week, a super consistent pigeon for the Long loft.
