Last weekend the NIPA staged two races, the Rosscarbery Old Bird Inland National at 250 miles, and Clonmel 185 miles. With favourable conditions hopes were high that local fanciers would enjoy good success, particularly from the OB National where 70 members had sent 270 birds. Liberated at 10.00am in a mainly Easterly wind, the winning pigeon covered the course in less than five hours. It was no surprise then to learn that the City of Derry Fed's top loft, Paul & Elaine Maxwell from the Foyle had done it yet again, but this time they did things in big style by topping the NIPA. Two birds together took 1st & 2nd Open, an absolutely brilliant performance for this North West loft. This partnership had 6 birds in the Federation result taking 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 14th & 18th, most of which will also feature in the NIPA Open result. In 3rd spot and also taking 3rd Open is the Londonderry's Noel Murray with Jim & Gary Ramsey taking 4th & 8th positions.

Other results: 6th - S Mc Grotty; 9th - L Flanagan & Son; 10th - D Friel; 11th - Concannon Bros; 12th & 17th - Cooley Bros; 13th - N McClay; 15th - J McLaughlin ; 16th - D Wick; 19th - F Ramsay; 20th - Quigley & Dunne.

Noel Murray has sent some additional info on his hen that finished 3rd Open from Rosscarbery last weekend. This game little Houben hen has not been raced since a young bird being a widowhood hen for 2 years. She was put back on the road this year and has already won from Clonmel in a N/West wind, 2 weeks previous to Rosscarbery. The parents of this hen were obtained from Leslie Madden of Coleraine.
