For race six of the young bird season the East Down Combine birds were released in Fermoy Co Cork at 10.30am in a helping south west wind. It turned out an easy race with the result dominated by lofts in the West Sect. Three lofts finished on the one yard, McCartan & Woodsides of Crossgar doing 1883 were just ahead of T Marshall & Son 1st Newtownbreda and C & D Smyth & Sons 1st Ballylesson. Reggie Moore & Son of Bangor RPC had 1st East Sect doing velocity 1862.

This week saw the pigeons in Fermoy for the 5th young bird race winner and probable 3rd EDC Open was the consistant ant lofts of Colin and Dorothy Smyth their winning blue cheq cock flew the 185 miles in 2 hours and 53 minutes to record a velocity of 1883.0 ypm runner up was Ballycoan road flyer Alex crawford with a blue hen on 1867.7 ypm 3rd and flying well with their young birds was the lofts of Bill Mackey and Albert Lockhart with a blue cheq hen on 1850.9ypm

Fermoy Open & Sect Result - 21/08/10
The East Down Combine was formed in 1967 and caters for pigeons fanciers within the County of Down in Northern Ireland. There are currently 22 clubs with approx 200 members sending a birdage of up to 5,000 pigeons each week. The Combine is currently spilt into 2 Section with a line running North to South creating an East to West Section. The membership currently race for 40 Open positions and 20 Section positions on a weekly basis. The Combine is affiliated to The Irish Homing Union Regulating and Promoting the Sport of Pigeon Racing in Ireland since 1895.
