Farming Life - Wednesday 27/07/11

The News Letter, now in its fourth century of continuous publication, has come a long way since it first saw the light of day in 1737. On a visit to Northern Ireland, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth described the longevity of the newspaper as "an achievement in which the people of Northern Ireland can take great pride". Pigeon News is featured in the Farming Life supplement each Wednesday.

East Down Combine Navan (2)

East Down Combine birds were back in Navan for the second race of the young bird season, the East Sect lofts dominated the result taking all positions in the Top 40. B Higgins of Annalong won 1st Open doing velocity 1477, Harper & Young of Cloughey were 2nd & 3rd. John Patterson of Ballylesson won 1st West Sect, other than that the result of the day was recorded by Gordon Bros & Sons who filled every position from 6th to 40th Open, don’t think I ever seen anything like that before in this country and it must be some sort of record in the East Down.

LOFT MANAGERS REPORT 15th JULY

“IRELANDS PREMIER INTERNATIONAL ONE LOFT RACE”

Training is well under way now in preparation for the forth coming series of races in this year’s Emerald Classic the birds are currently being trained in several batches to facilitate the last of our overseas entries which arrived slightly later than I would have liked.

The birds will certainly travel in style this year having just taken delivery earlier this month of a brand new state of the art 1200 bird transporter, manufactured to the highest standard complete with ventilation and on board watering facilities thanks to our sponsor Jeff Greenaway proprietor of Universal Pigeon Products full details of their product range can be found by clicking the UPP icon under our sponsors heading on the web site.

(INSERT PHOTO)

“Taking delivery of our new transporter from Jeff Greenaway of UPP”

As soon as all the birds are being liberated together training result will be published on our web site on a daily basis. A full loft list will be published in the next 10 to 14day and letters will be sent out to all entrants giving them the opportunity to activate their reserve birds along with booking forms for both this year’s grand final and the presentation dinner.

The Emerald Challenge

Pool sheets (which are now available to download on line) will also be included with these letters along with details of our exciting new Emerald Challenge single bird “Declared to Win Nomination” which will accumulate after each race(if not won) until we have a winner providing a substantial bonus to the lucky winner.

Despite polite reminders a number of birds still remain unpaid, birds which remain unpaid whenever the next loft list is compiled will be relisted as Bird for Sale and subsequently sold on a first come first served basis along with any non activated reserves prior to the first hotspot race which will take place during the first week of August.

Again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported the Emerald Classic this year again, and hope you enjoy the forth coming series of races.

Congratulations

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate my good friends William Gray and son Ian who have just had a fantastic four weeks following on from their 1st Open 1st Section Eastbourne Inland National in 2010 they nearly did the double by finished 2nd Open 2nd Sect in this year’s race 355mls, one week later they won 4th Open 1st Sect Messac 541mls, the next week they won 8th Open 2nd Sect Tours 587mls, topping off a fantastic season with an early arrival today from Clermont 480mls and winning the SNFC Old Bird averages along the way. Having spoken to both earlier tonight to congratulate them Willy tells me that his first bird from Clermount today is the nest mate of “Molly” the 2010 Eastbourne National what a superb family of pigeons.
