THE 17th SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE
RESULTS FOR TRAINING FLIGHTS 15, 16 & 17.
TRAINING FLIGHT 15 was supposed to take place on Saturday 19th January 2013 from 78km (48 miles) but because of persistent heavy rain during this day the race was postponed and the race actually took place on Sunday 20th January 2013 and the basketing list on the official web site showed a total of 2,979 pigeons were basketed and this total was made up by 2,492 International, which included 235 United Kingdom and 35 Irish pigeons plus 305 from South Africa.
The convoy were finally liberated at 09.00 in cool and overcast conditions, with a light head wind, with temperature of 18c (64f) and a good race was expected.
The OPEN result was as follows and CONGRATULATIONS goes to Richard Callahan from United States Of America who took 1st Open with his outstanding pigeon named Sailors Fancy which was clocked at 10.00.57.10 to record a velocity of 1414ypm (48mph), this outstanding pigeon has now won 4 x 1st Opens in TF4, TF11, TF14 and now TF15 during this 2012/13 race series, three of these from 78km (48 miles) and the other from 114km (71 miles). I think I am correct in saying this is the only pigeon to have won 4 x 1sts in a race series since the inception of this great race, it has also won 151st, 393rd, 252nd and 319th in Car Race4 Hot Spots. WHAT A GREAT CHAMPION. 2nd just 08.15 seconds later was Team Leusink – Eikenhorst from Netherlands, 3rd Wolfram Coesfeld from Germany, 4th Team Mille from Germany, 5th K Geldenhuis from South Africa, 6th Guys Lofts from United Kingdom, 7th Aurea Dream Team UK from United Kingdom, 8th Syndicate Lofts UK from United Kingdom, 9th Henri, Petra and Rik from South Africa, 10th Jan Baral from United States Of America, 11th Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 12th Kumar Syndicate from United States Of America, 13th Rieser u Meyer – Weitstreckenclub from Germany, 14th Gebr Bluemmers from Germany, 15th Guy Lofts Elite from United Kingdom, 16th Team Ellenbroek – Seelen from Netherlands, 17th Altmiks + Soudy from Germany, 18th Christoph Mueller from Germany, 19th Ganus Family Loft from United States Of America and 20th Esser – Schroll from Germany. The time gap between the first 20 pigeons was just 30.00 seconds and a total of 7 different countries were represented in this result. A total of 2,753 pigeons were officially recorded on the day by 17.32, leaving 44 still to make it back to the lofts. The Monday loft listing showed 2,765 pigeons had returned, leaving just 32 to make it back to the lofts.

A total of 229 UK pigeons were officially recorded on the day, leaving 6 still to return to base camp. The Monday loft listing showed 230 in the lofts, leaving just 5 to return to base camp.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st Ireland, 24th Open went to O’Donnell ABU Lofts with pigeon named Joes Delight 2 bred by Maurice O’Donnell, which was clocked at 10.01.27.44 just 30.34 seconds behind the race winner, 2nd Ireland, 139th Open Mousies Dream Team, 3rd Ireland, 175th Open Philip + Mark Smith, 4th Ireland, 246th Open Oliver Bond Flats, 5th Ireland, 410th Open another for O’Donnell ABU Lofts and 6th Ireland, 506th Open Brammer and Nasher. A total of 35 Irish pigeons were recorded on the day, leaving none to return to the lofts.
THE OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES WHICH OFFERS A US$10,000 (£6,500), US$5,000 (£3,250) and US$2,500 (£1,625) CASH PRIZES in this category results after 19 official races currently stands as follows:- 1st goes to Altmiks + Soudy from Germany with their pigeon named Blue River with a flying time of 32 hours 36 minutes 23.69 seconds. The first UK pigeon is in 29th and is owned by Mark Gilbert from Windsor with his pigeon named Southfield Ocean with a combined flying time of 34.50.33.05. The first Irish pigeon holds 54th and is owned by the Universal Warrior with their pigeon named Toddy, bred by John Enright with a combined flying time of 35.33.34.39.
***CASCADE CHALLENGE was once again well supported with over 150 entries, which included 20 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland. The “POT OF GOLD” of nearly US$15,000 (£10,000) was not won. This money will now be carried over to TRAINING FLIGHT 16. The nearest pigeon took 3rd Open for Wolfram Coesfeld with his pigeon named Stina. The best United Kingdom pigeon took 6th Open for Guys Lofts with pigeon named Wendys Boy. The best Irish pigeon took 139th Open for Mousies Dream Team with their pigeon named The Deise Rocket. TRAINING FLIGHT 16 took place on Wednesday 23rd January 2013 from 78km (48 miles) and the basketing list on the official web site showed a total of 2,795 pigeons being basketed and this total included 2,489 International, which included 232 United Kingdom and 36 Irish pigeons, plus 306 from South Africa.
The convoy were liberated at 07.45 in fine and clear conditions with a few clouds with little to no wind and temperature of 19c (66f) and a steady race was expected.
The OPEN result was as follows and CONGRATULATIONS goes to K Geldenhuis from South Africa who took 1st Open with his consistent pigeon named Beautiful Dreamer which was officially clocked at 08.41.30.65 to record a velocity of 1509ypm (51mph), this winner had previously won 24th, 104th, 44th, 31st, 112th, 197th, 184th, 24th, 301st, 5th and now 1st in this 2012/13 race series, 2nd just 01.40 seconds behind was Delta-Sigma-Flemish Pigeon Team from Belgium, 3rd OJs Loft from Belgium, 4th Golden Team from United States Of America,

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st Ireland, 212th Open were Oliver Bond Flats with pigeon named Ivano bred by Gerry McCourt which was clocked at 08.42.52.80 just 1 minute 22.15 seconds behind the race winner, 2nd Ireland, 245th Open Jos Reilly – Team Ireland, 3rd & 4th Ireland, 327th & 401st Open Universal Warrior, 5th Ireland, 437th Open Philip + Mark Smith and 6th Ireland, 447th Open Aurea Dream Team Eire, administered by Ronnie Johnson from West Bromwich and with pigeon bred by Lloyd and Kelly from Abingdon. A total of 36 Irish pigeons were officially recorded on the day, leaving none to return to the lofts.
THE OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES category results after 20 official races currently stands as follows:- 1st goes to Altmiks + Soudy from Germany with pigeon named Blue River with a combined flying time of 34.33.51.69 and currently leading be nearly 12 minutes. The first UK pigeon is holding 36th and belongs to Mark Gilbert from Windsor with his pigeon named Southfield Ocean with a combined flying time of 36.07.43.34. The first Irish pigeon holds 50th and belongs to Universal Warrior with pigeon named Toddy with a combined flying time of 36.31.52.99.
***CASCADE CHALLENGE had a total of 201 entries, which included 21 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland and a magnificent US$16,609 (£11,073) was up for grabs and after numerous races without a winner the pigeon that won 1st Open was nominated and this was with pigeon named Beautiful Dreamer owned by K Geldenhuis from South Africa that finally walked away with “THE POT OF GOLD”. WELL DONE TO THIS FANCIER ON THIS GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. The best United Kingdom pigeon took 66th Open for Guys Lofts with their pigeon named Wendys Boy bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton. The best Irish pigeon took 769th Open for Mousies Dream Team with their pigeon named The Deise Rocket.
GLOBAL NOMINATIONS in this race amounted to US$3,183.25c (£2,122) and there were 115 pigeons entered with 404 Nominations which included 12 UK and no Irish pigeons and in this race there were no United Kingdom or Irish winners. UNITED KINGDOM NOMINATIONS were none in this race.
TRAINING FLIGHT 17 took place on Saturday 26th January 2013 from 125km (78 miles) and the basketing list on the official web site showed a total of 2,788 pigeons were basketed and this total was made up by 2,484 International, which included 233 United Kingdom and 36 Irish pigeons plus 304 from South Africa.
The convoy was liberated at 05-45 in fine and clear conditions and a temperature of 19c (66f) and a good race was anticipated

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st Ireland, 123rd Open went to Universal Warrior with their pigeon named Toddy that has been very consistent in this race series and was clocked at 07.36.48.98, 2nd Ireland, 161st Open Brammer and Nasher with a pigeon bred by John Nash, 3rd Ireland, 176th Open Oliver Bond Flats with a pigeon bred by Gerry McCourt,
4th Ireland, 232nd Open Jos Reilly – Team Ireland, 5th Ireland, 249th Open O’Donnell ABU Lofts with pigeon bred by Maurice O’Donnell and 6th Ireland, 382nd Open Hennie + Anette Kallmeyer. A total of 35 Irish pigeons were clocked on the day, leaving just one pigeon to return to the lofts. The other pigeon returned on Sunday making all home.
THE OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 21 races currently looks like:- 1st Open Altmiks + Soudy from Germany with their outstanding pigeon named Blue River that has a combined flying time of 36.20.39.77 and is currently leading this category by nearly 19 minutes. The best United Kingdom pigeon is holding 35th spot and is Mark Gilbert from Windsor with his pigeon named Southfield Ocean with a flying time of 38.06.21.40. The best Irish pigeon is holding 45th spot and is Universal Warrior with pigeon Toddy which has a combined flying time of 38.23.41.97.
CASCADE CHALLENGE had a total 139 pigeons entered which included 14 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland and had US$3,207 (£2,138) up for grabs in this race and once again this single bird nomination was won and the winner was Ganus Family Lofts from United States Of America with his pigeon named Mikes Pick To Win. The second pigeon in this category and was only 02.14 seconds behind the winner was a pigeon named Jazz bred by Reinhard Krammer und Sohn from Germany but Activated by the Stansted Stars, administered by Paul Smith from Stansted Mountfitchet, who had the confidence to put this pigeon into the single bird nomination, this pigeon had previously won 108th, 177th, 29th, 257th, 9th, 58th and now in its last 3 races 55th, 44th and now 3rd. The first United Kingdom pigeon in this category took 41st Open and belonged to Lloyd and Kelly from Abingdon with their pigeon named Franklin. The first Irish pigeon took 561st Open for O’Donnell ABU Lofts with Joes Delight 2 bred by Maurice O’Donnell.
GLOBAL NOMINATIONS had 159 pigeons entered including 12 from the United Kingdom and 4 from Ireland. There was a total of 550 nominations in this race and the total to be won amounted to US$4,115.70 (£2,744) and there were no UK or Irish winners.

ONLY RACES OF 50KM (31 MILES) OR OVER COUNT TOWARDS THE ACE PIGEON AWARDS. ALL NOMINATION RACES ARE ALL MARKED WITH AN ASTERIX (*) NEXT TO THE FLIGHT OR RACE. This shipping date is later than the last few years and is due to the lofts not being open to take pigeons at an earlier date because of enforced new quarantine regulations. The race date for The 18th South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race has now been confirmed as SATURDAY 25th JANUARY 2014.
***SPECIAL NOTIFICATION*** I would just like to remind members of The National Flying Club that The Organisers of The South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race have once again decided to sponsor all the seven National Races during the 2013 race season. There will be a £3 per pigeon, unlimited nomination on each race and the winner of this nomination will win the following:- The “FREE ENTRY” entitles the winner to send a team of three pigeons (1 x Activated and 2 x Reserves) with no shipping costs to pay and the US$25 Registration Fee paid by the race organisers. If you lose your Activated (No. 1) pigeon, then your No. 2 pigeon goes into the race at no cost to you and then if you lost your No. 2 pigeon then your No. 3 would go into the race at no cost to you. If you were unlucky enough to lose all three pigeon s then you get a “FREE ENTRY” for the 19th SAMDPR in 2014. You only get one “FREE PIGEON” in the race and any of the Reserves can then be purchased by the owner for US$1,000 each anytime up to 7 days after the Car Race Hot Spot 5.
