The NIPA were in Penzance for the final cross channel event prior to France. On the Saturday they held over due to fog on the channel, at the release point it is over cast with low cloud and mist on the hills. On Sunday 21st June they liberated in Penzance at 8.10am in a light westerly wind with blue sky and sunshine, the temperature was 14 degrees. In Camborne approximately 25 to 30 miles up the coast they had blue sky and sunshine with a light westerly wind. It turned out the usual type of a race, early birds at the expected time but still many missing on the day. Ballymena had the big local result with Penzance experts W & J Smyth best with two birds followed by Mr & Mrs Sempey. Their winning 2 year old Dark Cheq cock was timed at 16.03hrs flying 329 miles for velocity 1226 finishing 1st MAC, 2nd Sect B & 14th Open NIPA where just short of 6,000 birds were competing.
In the final of the Mid Antrim Champions League Stewart Bros of Randalstown had 1st Club on velocity 1132 just pipped by Danny Dixon (1205) who wins the title for the second time, the first loft to do so. Stewart Bros had a great old bird season.
