Cloughey Lofts Take Top Places from Navan (2) writes Clifford Browne

The East Down Combine’s second Young Bird race was again from Navan and for this event the birds had a NW wind to steady them but a look at the Open result will see that again it was Cloughey on the East coast which had the early birds. Release time was 8.45am on Saturday 25th July with the top 8 birds recording velocities in excess of 1500ypm. The first five places in the Open went to the partnership of Harper & Young who in this event last year had taken the top 11 places
in the open. This year the Combine entry was almost 1100 birds up on the 2014 entry at 5237. Last week’s Open winners Cully & Monan were 6th open with 5 more in the top 20 continuing their great start. Downpatrick’s Jackie Crossan is 7th and 8th open and then two to Ballywalter’s Winston & Hugh McMaster at 9th & 10th and these are the top places in the East section. Dundonald have the top two in the West section with top spot going to Cowan & McCartney and they are followed by Mark Foulis and then it’s Ballylesson’s Alex Crawford who had a great race and takes the next six places.
