Bangor & Ballylesson Lofts win Derbies writes Clifford Browne -

Saturday 29th August saw the Combine hold a double Bill with two Derby events, one Inland from Skibbereen which included the Breeder/Buyer and the other the cross channel Derby from Talbenny and again both races had favourable winds. Details will follow on both these races but looking at the two races the Skibbereen race was very fast with a winning velocity of over 1900ypm and the Talbenny race saw winning velocities in the 1400s. The Talbenny winners were the Ballylesson
partnership of K & B McConaghie & son with a nice blue Chequer which is from their own family which Geoffrey has cultivated from his Dad the late Ken McConaghie’s old family. In 2nd place and topping the East section it was the Annsborough partnership of Bob McDowell & son who have a great record from cross channel events. In 3rd Open, 2nd West Section the Dundonald partnership of Cowan & McCartney look like finishing 2015 the way they started, at the top.

East Down Combine Breeder/Buyer Result from Skibbereen -

The Combine’s Breeder / Buyer event was flown from the first Skibbereen Derby and saw the partnership of A Cousins &sons win the top prize of £1380 being both the breeder and the buyer (racer) of the winner. The interest in this event has being growing year by year and so the prize money is also on the increase. Ballylesson’s John Patterson was the runner up being both breeder & racer of this bird and the Donaghadee partnership of Angus son & McConkey were in 3rd place being both the Breeder and Buyer and they were also 4th with a bird bred by Plunkett, Pollock & Nelson, Congratulations to all.
