For the second week the Mid Antrim birds were released at Mullingar with the Coleraine Area birds, liberation was at the early time of 10.15am in a helping Southwest wind. There were a lot of unfavourable conditions around and although a lot of birds made good time lots of others were late. Every year the subject of Area Liberations come up, a big number don’t bother sending and maybe it’s time we were thinking of having just one liberation for all, on a trial basis. Ballymena just missed the 1st Open place last week this time the best bird was timed by Blair & Rankin at 12.11hrs flying 102 miles for velocity 1550 followed by the top two birds into Harryville for Lexi Mullan and Dennis Craig, both lofts doing velocity 1546. The special Blair training is paying off as it did last week for Charlie McManus. The Blair winner was a Darkness youngster, Red Cheq cock was on its second race. Sire was a son of the Dixon Aviary Cock a top Lambrecht gifted from MDC Magill which has now bred 2 x 1sts while the dam was a Red hen Franz Myers from Paddy McManus. She has now bred 5 x 1st prize-winners with two different cocks.
