The Talbenny (2) weekend was a great time for the members of Mid Antrim Combine, Round (1) of the Champions League with just the winners going through and then the Semi-Final of the new Old Bird Knock-Out. The Champions League competition is between member clubs, four lofts are nominated to compete.

Matches were Danny Dixon (Rasharkin) v F G & J Dickey (Randalstown), Percy Son & Murphy (Randalstown) v Steele & McNeill (Rasharkin), J & M Milliken (Rasharkin) v Stewart Bros (Randalstown), J Eagleson & Sons (Ballymena) v W & J Smyth (Ballymena). Due to a poor weather forecast for Saturday the second race from Talbenny in South Wales was flown on Sunday with liberation at 10.00am in a Lt East NE wind. Best bird locally was timed by Paddy McManus to The Croft in Ahoghill, his 2 year old Cheq hen was timed at 14.50hrs recording velocity 1330 for the 219 miles.

It was a weekend of celebration for Jim Smylie of Smylie Bros Randalstown having their first win in 19 seasons of racing. They timed their 4 year old Blue Pied cock at 14.47hrs recording velocity 1300 for the 212 miles. Birds had been liberated in Talbenny South Wales at 10.00am and Jim Smylie will long remember this one.
