Skibbereen (2) YB Derby - 09/09/17

Post by willie reynolds »

The final event in the Combine Calendar was the Ken McConaghie Skibbereen Derby flown on the 9th of September and for this race the wind was NW which led to a much slower race than the previous week with the 791 birds being released at 9am .The winner on 1317 was the Newtownbreda loft of B Hogg & Sons who had a second bird at 11th and both these birds are Stefaan Lambrecht birds bred by Gibbs & Byrne of Lisburn and these Lambrecht pigeons have raced really well for Jack Hogg,. In 2nd place were Crossgar’s McCartan & Woodsides with Cloughey’s Harper & Young in 3rd spot . Full result is :

Talbenny Derby winner

As mentioned last week the winner of the Talbenny YB Derby for a 4th time in 5 years was the Ballylesson partnership of K & B McConaghie & son whose 2nd bird home won 3rd Open . The winning bird is a blue cheq cock which was a darkened youngster racing to the perch . The breeding is Braspennig on the cocks side and Soontjen on the hens and Geoff trains his birds extensively going with a couple of different trailers to give the birds experience of coming out of different groups of birds . The bird which won 3rd open was a red cock from the birds from Bertie & Helen Marshall of Newtownbreda and this cock was trained the same way as the winner . Geoff likes to race the young birds rigorously and he certainly has got the measure of this Talbenny Derby .Mum Betty helps with the birds and between them they have achieved quite a record from this race .
