The EDC where in Mullingar on Saturday for their first race Mark Foulis Dundonald HPS was 1st & 2nd open 1st & 2nd west Sect R Moore & Son Bangor HPS was 1st & 2nd East sect well done Mark.

DUNDONALD LOFTS TOP OPEN FROM MULLINGAR
19th April 2018

The East Down Combine’s 2018 season began on Saturday April 14th as scheduled but the weather leading up to the Saturday had been very poor which resulted in less training than usual and the forecast initially for the Saturday was not very promising all of which resulted in a smaller entry than usual with some fanciers and clubs opting to give their birds another week of preparation . However those who were competing actually enjoyed a very nice start to the season with leading velocities in the 1500’s . Mullingar was the race point and the race committee held the birds until 12.15 to get the best of the weather and they were released into a SSE wind which saw the clubs to the West side of the Combine get the early birds with Dundonald, Ballylesson and Bangor dominating but it was Dundonald which had the 5 best velocities with Mark Foulis having the top two followed by Cowan & McCartney who were 3rd and 5th & 8th open with the partnership of Myles ,Kincaid ,McCann & Auld also Dundonald 4th & 7th Open and Ballylesson’s Alex Crawford 6th Open with all of these lofts being in the West Section .
In the East Section it was Bangor and Cloughey with Bangor’s Reggie & David Moore 1st ,2nd 5th 6th & 7th . T & S Phillips were 3rd section with Burgess & Brennan 4th & 8th it was then over to Cloughey with the Partnerships of Harper &Young and Gordon Bros & sons dominating in Cloughey , and you can see that several of the lofts taking the top positions have several other birds following on behind also taking Open and section places. Breeder/Buyer Birds make £3,000

The East Down Combine held their 2018 breeder/buyer sale in the Temple Golf & Country club on Friday the 30th March 2018 and a big thanks is due to the team who organised and ran this event ,the team being Dorothy Smyth, Colin Smyth, Doley Croskery who auctioned the birds ,& John Kirk. Thanks to all who put birds in and all who bought and thanks to the Temple Golf & Country club for the use of their premises which once again proved an ideal venue for a Combine event A total of 55 birds were auctioned off making the impressive total of £3,015 to be raced for in the 1st Skibbereen Young Bird Derby . There will again be four prizes as follows :
1st breeder £753-- 1st buyer £753
2nd breeder £376 -- 2nd buyer £ 376
3rd breeder £226 --3rd buyer £226
4th breeder £150 --4th buyer £ 150

The buyer must race the bird to their loft and birds ring number cannot be changed under any circumstances. All breeder/ buyer birds timed must be claimed on the Derby envelope for that race ---,good luck to all EDC members .

Dundrum New Loft nears Completion

The new loft of Dundrum fancier Sammy Foster whose lofts and birds were destroyed in the fire at Christmas is nearing completion as the photo shows and Sam is very grateful to all those who have helped him to get re-established and who helped him in any way .We look forward to hearing how your Ybs go later in the year Sam .
