Racing last weekend as expected got the go ahead in better conditions, and a helping wind. The NIPA had the usual Area Liberations from Navan, Mullingar and Tullamore, East Down Combine were back in Navan and the Ulster Federation moved on to Kildare.

Confirmed Lib Times – Section C in Navan at 9.00am. Sect F in Mullingar at 9.00am. Sect A West/H in Tullamore at 9.00am. Sect B & Top Sect A in Tullamore at 9.30am. Sect D, G & Ligoniel in Tullamore at 10.00am. Sect E & Bottom Sect A in Tullamore at 10.30am. Ulster Federation at 8.30am in Kildare, wind Lt SW. East Down Combine at 8.30am in Navan, wind Lt West.

The NIPA Sect B birds were released in Tullamore at 9.30am for the second young bird race of the year with the top of Sect A including Coleraine, Danny Dixon had the Card of the Day eight birds together into Dunloy and the top positions in both Ballymoney HPS almost 1,000 birds and Mid Antrim Combine where 2,800 birds were competing. The winner a pure Lambrect Dark Ch w/f cock on Darkness was on its second race, timed at 11.50am flying 133 miles for velocity 1662. Coleraine Triangle winner was A & R McAuley of Ballymoney doing velocity 1584, Robbie (Van Winkle) Callaghan & Son had a fantastic card including 1st Coleraine Premier doing velocity 1573. Around Antrim Fleming Bros were back on top in Crumlin & Dist (1535), D J Thompson had 1st Muckamore (1534).

The Mid Antrim Combine birds were released with the NIPA Sect B and top half of Sect A at 9.30am in Tullamore, Danny Dixon had eight early arrivals into Dunloy and these birds fill the top of MAC where almost 2,800 birds were competing across the nine member clubs. Next best were A C & T Tweed in Rasharkin (1629) followed by Young McManus & Sons who had a good card in Ahoghill (1624) and Martin Graham winning Ballymena & District (1587) for the second week.

BALLYMENA RING NOMINATION – The local club Ballymena & District this year are holding a special Ring Nom Race to be flown from Fermoy on Saturday 22nd August. Open only to lofts competing in the Mid Antrim Combine. Entry fee is £10 per ring with no limit, the prize list will be confirmed after the final deadline for entries. Harryville HPS – The members of the local club have expressed their sincere sympathy to long time members J Millar & Son from Fortview in Cromkill on the death of Mrs Irene Millar. The family have a long association with the sport flying in the Cromkill area and have been members in Harryville many years, and before that in Kells & District.

For the second young bird race the East Antrim birds returned to Navan, released at 9.00am. Best reported and having a best ever season the high flying Glengormley partnership of Campbell & Bigger, two birds together record velocities 1662 and 1661. Brian McCammon has the top two birds in Larne & District (1642) with 1,180 birds competing and Mr & Mrs G Robinson have 1st in both Carrick & Dist and Carrick Soc (1634) plus pools under strong pressure from D & J Armstrong & Son who had a super card.
