Mid Ulster Federation
Gowran Park Race Report – 19 April 2026
The Mid Ulster Federation held its Gowran Park race on 19 April 2026, with birds liberated at 10:00am in what proved to be a competitive and well-supported event. A total of 33 members sent 957 birds, producing a strong and meaningful test across all three centres.
At the head of the result, A Geraghty of Armagh delivered an outstanding performance to win the federation with a velocity of 1502.57 yards per minute. This was a clear and decisive victory, setting the benchmark for the day and standing out against a tightly contested chasing pack.
While Armagh claimed the top honour, the depth of performance came notably from the hoggs centre. Seven of the top ten federation positions were secured by Hoggs lofts, highlighting a strong collective showing and consistent trapping across multiple competitors. Fanciers such as G Buckley & Son, R Buckley, and Stevie Eglington featured prominently, reinforcing Hoggis’ reputation for depth and reliability.
Armagh, however, made its presence count at the very top. Alongside the winning performance, G Stevenson & Son secured 2nd place, and R Parkes & Son also placed within the top ten, ensuring the centre remained competitive at the front end of the result.
The Meadows (Centre A) did not feature in the top ten but showed competitiveness further down the result sheet, suggesting that while just outside the leading positions, performances were not far off the pace.
The winning pigeon itself appeared in excellent condition when presented, reflecting the preparation and management behind the performance. Calm in the hand and well-balanced, it exemplified the qualities expected of a federation winner.
In summary, the Gowran Park race offered a clear narrative. Hoggs dominated in strength and numbers, placing heavily in the top positions, while Armagh produced the standout individual performance to take the win. It was a race that showcased both depth and excellence, and a fitting result for a well-contested federatiomn event
