SMYTH’S SOAR HOME FROM BENAMORE
Just like that we are into week 3 of the NIPA Old Bird season. With the May Bank holiday weekend
proving to be a bad one with frequent showers the race was rescheduled to the Bank holiday
Monday. The NIPA fleet was set for the same route taken last week back down to County Tipperary.
On Monday the 4 th of May. A total of 564 NIPA Members sent 18,548 Birds to Benamore in Co.
Tipperary for the third race of the NIPA Old Bird Season. The Birds were liberated at 09:30hrs in a
Light North East Wind.
The Winning Bird from the third Old Bird Race of the 2026 NIPA Season belongs to J. Smyth & Sons
of Drumnavady HPS in Section G.
The Drumnavady Flyers have won the accolade of topping the NIPA from a very tough testing day.
The Benamore 2 Open winning pigeon clocked the Open winning velocity of 1260.8YPM. He is a 3
year old cheq cock GB23 S 33146 is a Leo Hermans bred from a pair purchased from Derek Parr. He
was raced on the widowhood system and had a few minor placings before topping the NIPA Open
from Benamore 2.

SECTION C REPORT
The Winner of Section C (97/3,325) from Benamore 2 was Bingham & Seaton & Dowie of Ligoniel &
District HPS. The Belfast partnership wins the ever competitive Ligoniel & District (516 Birds) and
were rewarded with winning the Section (3,325 Birds) they had an overall great result in the NIPA
Open winning 4 th Open (18,548 Birds). Their Section Winner is a 2 year old red cock NWHU24 A 2011.
He was bred by Robert Pugh of Wales. He has won Roscrea 2025 77 th Open NIPA 23,200 birds 11 th
Section C 3,500 birds. Last year he had a nasty bump which was too big to stitch and had to tape him
up with duck tape to stop the water pouring from his crop. He was then rested for the year to
recover and put back on the road in 2026. The pigeon has since been named "Duck Tape" and is one
of the favourites in the loft. His Sire is a Pitbull bred by David Peeters and is a Dbl G Son of the
Famous Pitbull 777. His Dam was bred by Panis Johny, obtained via Sheldon Leonard. She is a Dtr of
Super Dirk, making her half sister to Witte Dirk.

SECTION D REPORT
The Winner of Section D (57/2,156) from Benamore 2 was Ryan Aiken of Dromore HPS. Ryan tops
Dromore club winning 1 st prize (367 Birds) and adds a section win to his name from the third old bird
race of the year (2,156 Birds) achieving a fantastic result all round obtaining 2 nd Open NIPA
Benamore 2 (18,548 Birds) Ryan is delighted to record a new personal best. The pigeon, GB25 D
27280 blue cock, is a yearling raced on the roundabout system. He is a direct youngster of “Fortuna,”
bred and raced by P&J Boal, who also achieved 2nd National. My team is made up largely of young
birds sourced from Philip and raced naturally for 2–3 races. Sincere thanks to Philip for his time,
guidance, and, of course, the outstanding quality of pigeons.

The Winner of Section F (64/1,949) from Benamore 2 was Lambert & Stewart of Bangor RPC. Cliff
takes the first 2 prizes in the club (310 Birds) In the Section prizes they clocked in the best velocity
winning 1 st prize (1,949 Birds) and overall in the NIPA Open top 300 the section winning pigeon won
50 th Open (18,548 Birds)The Section F Winner GB24 B 12124 is a 2 year old Cheq hen from his
Ragnar/Rollo line. These two brothers are multiple winners and excellent breeders. Responsible for
winning pigeons from themselves and Jim Burgess. This hen is out of a son of the O6 hen a Dtr of
Rollo 3x1sts and came to win the OB Skibbereen Derby along with two strays who kept her from
landing and ended up 4 th open. 12142 is racing on the roundabout system. She is very keen and is
forever trying to get past Cliff into the cock section. Normally baskets the hens first and she was
trying to get back out of the basket every chance she got.
