Ulster Federation – Old Bird Season Opener 2026
The Ulster Federation officially kicked off the 2026 old bird season with a race from Tullamore, Co. Offaly. A total of 59 members sent 1,477 birds.
The birds were liberated at 10:00am into a west north-west wind, providing fair racing conditions.
Leading the way with an outstanding and dominant performance were D McIlhome & Daughter of Shankill HPS. They achieved a remarkable result, taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Federation — a truly exceptional loft performance.
5th Federation goes to Arthur O’Hanlon of Fortfield HPS, clocking a quality pigeon bred by his good friend Herbie Thorpe.
J Ward & Son (Fortfield HPS) secured 6th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Federation.
J & D Braniff of Whitehouse took 7th and 16th Federation
K Doherty of Fortfield claimed 8th and 9th Federation.
The Federation would like to extend thanks to Race Controller Tony Ferran and Lee Wilson for ensuring a successful opening race.
