On the best weekend of the year racing started for the NIPA who released in Tullamore County Offaly at Noon on Saturday 10th April 2010, first reports are for an excellent race and fantastic returns. Best reported over the weekend was Brendan Corley in Monaghan where we had a lot of early birds and then a big batch up into Derry City with the best bird timed yet again by Mr & Mrs Paul Maxwell of the Foyle, the top loft during 2009.

Patrick Tierney writes - The season got off to a great start on Saturday week last with the first of 2 trips for the Monaghan birds to Tullamore in County Offaly, a trip of 71 miles and in the first trip Smithborough flyer Brendan Corley took the honours, both locally and nationally. The birds were liberated at 12.noon and just 1 hour and 11 minutes later Brendan had timed his winner a bird christened “Liverpool Lou” after its owner’s support of the Anfield Reds.The velocity the bird was doing was amazing and the yearling, in his first ever race, was flying at over a mile per minute with a strong tail wind and in ideal conditions. With over 220 birds away in the club, he won First Club, First in the Orchard Combine and First Open and Section in the NIPA where 14,400 birds were competing. A great start to the season for the club and Brendan whose win was popular with all the club members. Well done to him.

The NIPA were back again in Tullamore last week with 75 local members sending 866 birds. With a Westerly wind dominating a slower race was expected, but again the birds were quicker than anticipated. Taking top spot again and also probable 1st Section H is the Foyle partnership of Paul & Elaine Maxwell who totally dominated the result by taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th , 17th & 20th City of Derry Federation. An absolutely brilliant performance, by a top class act. 4th & 8th Fed go to Toby and Martin Gallagher who win the Londonderry RPS while Frankie Ramsay takes 5th to win the Maiden City. Other Results: 9th - B Page; 13th - T McDaid; 14th - M Jones; 15th - P Breslin & Son; 16th - G Mc Laughlin; 18th & 19th - McGettigan Bros.
