In the Coleraine Area the local Triangle has been topped by A & R McAuley who race in the Ballymoney HPS and have their lofts close to Portrush on the North Coast. Andrew timed one of his yearling hens racing to the perch and they have been lightly trained recording velocity 1449. The Blue w/f was in the clock at 15.16hrs flying 162 miles, a half Van de Brande a line that has been doing very well for the loft. Nevin Bros topped the Coleraine Premier doing velocity 1436 ahead of the high flying Hanson & Harpur club winners in the two previous races. Kenny McAuley has 1st Coleraine & Co Derry (1426) and G Donaghy Sons & grandson have 1st Windsor Social in Coleraine (1414).
Coleraine Triangle Roscrea – A & R McAuley Ballymoney 1449, Nevin Bros Coleraine Prem 1436, Hanson & Harpur Coleraine Prem 1435, Diamond Bros Coleraine Prem 1434, A McDonnell Coleraine Prem 1428, K McAuley Coleraine & Co Derry 1426, Diamond Bros 1426, T McCrudden Coleraine & Co Derry 1423, A McDonnell 1423, R McAlary Coleraine Prem 1423.
Last Saturday 9th April the birds were in Tullamore County Offaly for the first of the old birds races. With a strong south east wind the top end of the country would dominate the Section and Open positions racing with the NIPA. News filtered through that the strings were cut and the birds were in the sky at 12.30pm. A fast race was expected with the winners expected to do 60mph in the helping winds.
The best local bird and provisional Section B leader looks like going to the Bushmills loft of Kenny Glass of the Windsor Social doing well over 1700ypm and a great start to the old bird season. Kenny has won the section for the further flying lofts in Section B from Tullamore like last season when the loft of Danny Dixon done the same. Kenny not only wins the club and provisional section win but also fancied this yearling cock on winning club pools. The breeding of this winner is Harry Hearn crossed with Jim Gibbon Bloodlines.
What a brilliant card Jimmy Hanson of the Coleraine Premier had taking the first five places in the club and taking very good section B positions. Jimmy timed one of his good hens that had previously won the Rosscarbery YB National, being one of his Wildy family. Must congratulate Danny Dixon on his predictions that Jimmy would be the loft to beat on Saturday. I’d say Danny will know doubt be onto jimmy looking for a tip to get off the mark for the season.
Now onto a loft that needs know introduction and that is the loft of none other than Leslie "The Kingpin" Madden with a cracking race team performance with his crack team of lightening fast Lambrects. Leslie looks like being the winner of another 1st section win racing within Section A. With a top velocity of 1691 this looks good enough for top honours. This loft will be hard to beat if he gets the drive again to put the work into the birds and know doubt with Mr Hanson doing his usual winding The Kingpin will give him his fill of it. Congrates Les on a top perfomance. Lynne says she cant wait for this special pair of Lambrects you have in the nest for her.
Over in the County Derry the winner here is none other that Terrence McCrudden with a velocity of 1670 and 1646 for a good 1-2 with the winner being one of his Marrita Vink pigeons sourced at great expense. This 2yr old cock was racing to eggs and was a previous winner of 30th open Fermoy last year as a yearling.
In the big Ballymoney club it was a good start to the season for the loft of A& R McAuley with a winning velocity of 1689ypm for what looks like 2nd section A. Andy seems to be making this race point his own as last year he won the club in this race also. This years winner was a yearling mealy hen.

Good to see Stevie Marshall getting his act together in winning Cookstown Social, no doubt the smugger will be looking to get a win shortly to back up all of his talking in the closed season. Coleraine Triangle – Report by Bannsider
Saturday April 16th the local fanciers were back in Tullamore County Offaly for the second race of the season. Fred Russell had on the NIPA web site that a liberation would take place at 12:30pm. Sure enough the strings were cut and the convoy were away winging their way to every part of the country.
The birds were slow to clear the liberation site mainly due to the low cloud base at Tullamore. The cloud height at the liberation site was 900ft and scattered at 1600ft with the wind coming in from the northwest at 3 knots and expecting to change later to the south east at 8 knots. This would know doubt help them make short work of their journey.
BallyBogey loft does the double in the Big Coleraine Premier and Tops the Triangle.
The best bird in the local area is the Ballybogey loft of Jimmy Hanson with a top velocity of 1488ypm. Jimmy timed one of his lightening fast Lambretchs. The winning pigeon was a yearling hen and she was one of last years darkness youngster’s that flew very consistently for the loft. That’s two weeks on the trot Jimmy has won the Col Premier with a hen. Just wait till he gets his widowhood team of cocks ready!! It must be that B&Q magic that’s doing the trick Jimmy.
Next in the area is again to the Premier club this time to Anthony McDonnell with a widowhood cock and again another Belguim line this time Van De Brande breeding. Anthony timed the cock bird for second place at 15.12pm for a velocity of 1483ypm. This cock bird has been unlucky in the Big club with another runner up spot to its CV. Maybe next time it will take pole. This cock bird will be good enough for 2nd Section A.

Over in the Big Ballymoney club it’s a first win of the season to the Dunloy Ace Danny Dixon with a velocity of 1483ypm from a big birdage of 962 in the club. Danny timed a two year Verschelde/Sumo cross that was fourth open from Rosscarbery last year. Danny will have to go some this season after smashing all records last year. Know doubt he will give it a good go and will be the loft to beat in the Big Nationals in the area. Last weeks winner in the club of A& R McAuley are in second place this week with a velocity of 1476ypm.
