The NIPA had a very erratic race at the weekend from Tullamore in County Offaly, it was just the second race of the young bird season and the first mass release. Low cloud and rain delayed the release until late afternoon getting away at 3.30pm. It was reported birds were slow to clear and returns at the home end were far from good, many club winners were several minutes clear. Despite the conditions on Sunday and Monday a fair number of birds turned up but most lofts still had birds missing. The rest of the programme will be a bit different from now on, but the weather is what it is.

The best reported bird in the NIPA is in Armagh to the loft of P Campbell & Sons doing velocity 1579 followed by George Connolly of Broughshane & Dist doing 1572 and P & M Healy of Maiden City on velocity 1566, J Devlin Coalisland 1553, G & A Campbell Armagh 1546, S Fields & Sons Armagh 1543, Gordon Bros Portadown Inv 1542, S Marshall Cookstown 1540, M/M B McNeilly Doagh & Dist 1534, D Calvin Bondhill 1531, J Whitten Edgarstown 1526, G & C Simmons Edgarstown 1525, P Grew Charlemont 1518, J L Madden Coleraine Prem 1511, J Courtney Muckamore 1511, J L Madden 1511, J L Madden 1510, R McCann Windsor Soc 1510, R Williamson Bondhill 1510, J L Madden 1510.

Broughshane club secretary Harry Smyth has supplied some info on the big local winner and supplied a photo. George Connolly doing velocity 1572.74 with Blue cock timed at 5.53pm into the Garveywood Lofts at Grove Road, Ballymena. Darkness young one, racing to the perch and wanting home on a very difficult day. Bred from a Van den Brande cock from A & R McAuley Ballymoney and the dam from the famous Boscheind Flyers bought at the Ballyclare sale held by Irelands Own Pigeon Auctions.
