NIPA Ladies Night 2011

The Vice Chairman Alan Darragh from Cullybackey with good wife Betty welcomed another good turn out of members and friends to the Annual NIPA Ladies Night held last weekend at the Templeton Hotel, in Templepatrick. Members were present from every part of the country from Derry City at the top of Northern Ireland down to Newry City at the border. Not much bother there now compared to the time the Customs Post was in operation the transporters now travel south through the new Newry bypass and now have good roads and a lot of motorway all the way to County Cork.

Special guests on this occasion included at the top table Mr John Heffernan Chief Convoy for many seasons for the Irish SR Federation and his wife, NIPA President Joe Kelly and Noel Murray from Londonderry, RPRA (Irish Region) President Sammy Thompson and his wife, Neil Frazer and wife from Frazer Feeds in Banbridge, and Mr & Mrs Robert Reid Secretaries RPRA (Irish Region). Also present were Mr & Mrs Beattie NIPA Sponsors, from the Irish Nat FC, Vice President David Black and Secretary Trevor Topping and President of the ISRF Henry Byrne.

Sammy Thompson was invited to say grace and the dinner got away on good time prior to a very large presentation. It was in the capable hands of long time Secretary Fred Russell and his new assistant Gregory McAvoy.

Most winners were in attendance to collect awards another massive night for Ron Williamson from Bondhill winning a dozen cups including Sect E Fancier of the Year for the 19th Season on the trot, quite an achievement. Rather that give replicas for each trophy as is the standard practice the NIPA presented Ron Williamson with a Cup to keep inscribed with all the winning performances which included the bulk of the hard to win Average Cups. Tom Wilson travelled up from Gilford and collected the awards for the Old Bird National St Malo, McComb Cup, News of the World Cup and Pigeonportal.com Cup.

Venue will be Newtownbreda HPS a venue that has hosted many top sales over many years. First up will be a superb collection of 39 pigeons sent over by David Coward Talbott these mostly G/Children from some of the Absolute cream of Distance performers on the continent including “DE NARBONNE” 1st National Belgium + 6 Other Top Ten Nat Positions; “LUCAS” 1st National NPO Tours & 8th National Bourges; “VALE CAHORS” 1st National Cahors; “MUSA SON” Direct from “MUSA” 5 x Barcelona; “NATIONAL II” 1st National Limgoes; “EMPEROR” Sire of 1st DAX 19,400 Birds & 2nd DAX 17,000 Birds; “FULL TRY” 1st National ACE Pigeon Long Distance; “INTERNATIONAL DAX” 1st International Dax; “MISS LA SOUTERRAINE” 1st National La Souterraine; “SUMO” Multiple Winner and Ace Stock Cock for Jos Thone; “PAULINE” 4th International Pau; “DEN DAX” 1st National Dax;“THE RED BARCELONA” 1st National Barcelona. David Talbott is without doubt one of the elite stock and race men in the UK responsible for scores of winners for many fanciers in the all over the UK over the last 30 years, many pigeons have went on to be the basis for many consistent successful lofts especially at the 200 - 400 mile mark and further. A sale not to miss this the first for Adie at the Newtownbreda HPS Venue. The following Monday Adie will return with a superb draft of pigeons for Vernon Thom of Cookstown regarded as “Mr National” and why not !!! What a record Vernon has spanning some 50 years hardly a years passes without Vernon Thoms name appearing in a National result, this made possible of course with his old crafted family of Kenyon and Cattrysse pigeons. Sadly due to advanced age Vernon is finding the work load of the pigeons very demanding and has reluctantly decided to part with 40 + superb specimens that I must admit are rich and tasty to the eye containing all the old bloodlines that have kept Vernon at the top of National racing for what seems a complete life time. Once again a super sale to be had here. Both sales lists available to read on Ireland’s Leading website www.pigeonnetwork.com

Obituary Steven Lowry -

The local area and village of Gracehill and Ahoghill were shocked at the sad news of the untimely death of Steven Lowry captain of his local football team and a member of the D Lowry & Sons partnership who race in the Ahoghill Flying Club. Despite the quick response of an ambulance team they were unable to save the life of Steven who passed away shortly after returning from training at the local football fields. A highly respected and well liked young man he was involved in the Glenhugh Flute Band and worked as a barman at the Diamond Bar in Ahoghill. As I had mentioned he was captain of Ahoghill Rovers who play in the Saturday Morning League. Tributes were led by the Chairman Davy King and a number of matches were cancelled on Saturday the day of the funeral and Ahoghill Flying Club also cancelled the weekly show as a mark of respect. The local fancy send their sincere condolences to the family circle at this very sad time, he was shortly to be married. Donations in lieu of flowers were for C.R.Y (Cardiac risk in the young). The funeral was attended by a large number of the local sporting world and was one of the largest ever seen in the local village of Ahoghill. Willie Reynolds HOMER.
