DUBLIN Charity Show –
The major show in Ireland was held as usual in November, based at the Kennel Club, Swords and handy to both the road networks and Dublin Airport. If you are looking for something to eat outside the show, the Coachman’s Inn Restaurant is only a short walking distance away on the Airport Road, and should not be missed.
A lot of effort is put into the organizing of such a big event all very well managed by Dublin Show Society Chairman Eugene Fitzgerald and a dedicated long standing committee including Kevin Darling, Secretary Mick O’Driscoll, Jay Byrne, Gerry Daly and M O’Connor, not forgetting the stewards. All told there were 20 Classes, enough for al,l and the judges travelled from GB the team including D Blackley, S Galloway, R Bowey, C Stubbs, H Moore, T Craggs, M Arkless, P Stubbs, and R Sexton.
The various class winners were: Old Cock Flown Channel – D Cummins, Old Hen Flown Channel - D Cummins, Old Cock Flown - T & K Mawhinney, Old Hen Flown - Chris Shaw, Young Cock Flown – J Caufield, Young Hen Flown – D Cummins, Any Age Cock/Hen Eye-sign – J Brown & Son, Old Cock Through Wires – W & N Gilbert, Old Hen Through Wires – T & K Mawhinney, Young Hen Through Wires – B Hobbs, Young Cock Through Wires – T & K Mawhinney, Matched Pairs – T & K Mawhinney, Colour Class – B Hobbs, Any Age Cock Unflown – T & K Mawhinney, Any Age Hen Un-flown W & N Gilbert, Late Bred Hen or Cock – Chris Shaw, Show Racer OC Un-flown – R Farrelly, Show Racer OH Un-flown – Kevin Berney, Show Racer Young Hen – Kevin Berney, Show Racer Young Cock – Rouke & Christie.
Best in Show and the Most Points was won by T & K Mawhinney from Donaghcloney in Northern Ireland, the partners won 5 Classes are over recent years have won all the major awards several times. One of their best hens Kato Star has won at least 15 x BIS awards, some going that. Young Chris Shaw from Dromore in Northern Ireland won 2 Classes and had BOS. For the Dublin Area Derek Cummins had 3 x 1sts, with 2 x 1sts each for B Hobbs and K Berney.
A very special presentation was made by Eugene Fitzgerald 3,000 Euros going to the Laura Lynn Hospice Sunshine Home, Leopardstown for terminally ill children. Another fantastic effort by all concerned, if you have not attended yet mark the date in for November 2012.
