A further week of daily training under their belts and the official basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web site on Wednesday 28th December 2011 for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4, which was due to take place on Thursday 29th December from 344km (approx. 214 miles) and this showed a total of 4,073 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,458 International, which included 316 from the United Kingdom and 44 from Ireland, plus 615 pigeons from South Africa. The liberation then took place at 05-30 in clear, fine and cool conditions, 19c (66f), with little to no wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).

These top 20 pigeons were all clocked within 1 minute 27.25 seconds of the race winner and 6 different countries were represented in the top 20. The top 50 pigeons were all clocked within 7 minutes 02.43 seconds of the race winner and the top 100 pigeons were all clocked within 14 minutes 17.10 seconds of the race winner. It should be mentioned that the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TEAM had a wonderful result with 5 pigeons in the top 9 and 7 in the top 20 in this result. A total of 49 pigeons were officially recorded by 10-19, then 61 by 10-22, then 267 by 10-28, then 419 by 10-32, then 1,431 by 10-54, then 1,599 by 10-59, which was 40 minutes after the race winner, then 2,399 by 11-44, then 2551 by 12-07, then 2,839 by 13-14, then 2,948 by 13-46 and then 3,493 finally making it on the day by 19-04, leaving 580 pigeons still to make it back to the lofts. The clock was left on Friday to record pigeons and they started rolling in from 05-47 and 3,703 had been clocked by 09-12 and finally 3,814 had returned by 18-57, leaving 259 still to make it back to base camp. A further 34 pigeons returned to the lofts, making 3,848 in total, with now only 225 to return. The final number that made it home was 3,878 pigeons, leaving 195 still missing. Sure a few of these will work back in the next few days.
Yet another fantastic return rate for this Car Race Hot Spot 4 from 215 miles. These figures represent a 95.21% return rate which is exceptional in this type of race and the Race Director (Zandy Meyer), Loft Managers, Corey Naude (convoyer) and other convoyers, drivers and all the other loft staff should get a big pat on the back for these remarkable return figures. It should also be mentioned that after the early losses Car Race Hot Spot 1 from 121 miles showed a 100% return rate, whilst Car Race Hot Spot 2 from 160 miles showed a 95% return rate. Car Race Hot Spot 3 showed a 96% return rate. SO THE AVERAGE RETURN RATE FOR THESE FIRST FOUR CAR RACE HOT SPOTS IS 96.50%. Roll on Car Race Hot Spot 5 from 243 miles on Saturday 7th January 2012. GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED.
Well done again to Michael Holt and Pieter Saayman for keeping everybody up to date with arrivals as they returned from this Car Race Hot Spot 4, these guys did a fantastic job to keep everybody informed during the two days that this race took place. They currently have the most informative one loft web site in the world today but continually striving to improve the information so that all the fanciers and competitors can be kept up too date anywhere in the world with what is happening at the lofts in Sun City, South Africa.
*** BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR WINNER*** for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 went to 1st OPEN for TEAM ELITE from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named Bb 31. WELL DONE TO THIS AMERICAN TEAM.
***TWO BIRD AVERAGE WINNER & US$2,000 CASH PRIZE*** went to TEAM SG JUNG – JUPID from GERMANY with pigeons named SORAIA and PAAVO and which finished in 34th & 51st. These two pigeons also won the US$2,000 CASH PRIZE in CAR RACE HOT SPOT 3, which must be some sort of record as I can’t remember any one team winning this category twice in succession with the same pigeons. The UNITED KINGDOM best two pigeons belonged to LEE FRIBBINS with pigeons named PRINCESS OF FRATING and RACING STAR which took 55th & 206th OPEN, both were bred by LEE FRIBBINS from FRATING near COLCHESTER, who is The Editor of The Racing Pigeon and The Pictorial. This is the second time in four Car Race Hot Spots that Lee has won 1st UK, last time he won 2nd OPEN and this time he was 8th OPEN. His team of three pigeons has flown exceptionally well in this race series. WELL DONE TO THE WINNER.
*** TWENTY US$1,000 HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES*** were taken by ACTIVATED pigeons in the top 21 in the Open result. The result showed that the pigeon that actually took 16th for a Czech Republic entrant was NOT ACTIVATED and this cost this entrants/competitors US$1,000 each but the good news was for the fanciers that took 21st walked away with a very handy US$1,000 bonus prize. This shows once again that if your pigeons are still in the lofts prior to the Car Race Hot Spot 1, it is extremely foolish not to ACTIVATE them.

The CASCADE CHALLENGE was a new competition introduced two years ago and it has created a great deal of interest. It is basically a SINGLE PIGEON NOMINATION and any pigeon can be entered for just US$10 (approx. £6.50p) but the “POT OF GOLD” can only be won if one of these nominated pigeons actually wins 1st OPEN, if not it is like the National Lottery, it just rolls over to the following nomination race or until somebody finally wins the jackpot. You do not have to enter the same pigeon in every nomination race, the choice is yours.
CASCADE CHALLENGE for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 showed a total of US$10,007-00c (approx. £6,672) and had attracted 207 nominations which included 17 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland. Hard luck for RMC LOFT from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA who actually came 2nd OPEN and missed out by 07.10 seconds from winning to “POT OF GOLD”. The nearest UNITED KINGDOM pigeon took 14th OPEN for MANCHESTER MAESTROS with his consistent pigeon named PLUTOLOGY bred by CREHAN & O’CONNOR from SALFORD. The first IRISH pigeon holds 59th Open and belongs to BERNARD SMYTH with his pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE, which is currently leading this classification by 1 hour 23 minutes and 06.12 seconds. SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012.
REPORT ON CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 & TRAINING RACE 18.
UNITED KINGDOM TEAM HAS ANOTHER FANTASTIC RACE IN CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 AND “FLIES THE FLAG” AND WINS 14th, 15th, 55th, 59th, 75th, 83rd, 85th, 87th, 97th, 102nd, 103rd, 107th, 108th, 109th, 113th, 114th, 124th, 134th, 136th & 143rd OPEN, PLUS WINNING TWO MORE OF THE US$1,000 HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES.
CONGRATULATIONS on winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to TEAM ELITE from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named Bb 31 which was officially clocked at 10-11-18.28 to record 1335ypm (46mph), this pigeon had won 338th in CRHS2 and 213th in CRHS3 and now 1st in CRHS4.
2nd Open went to RMC Loft from United States Of America, this pigeon has been very consistent and previously won 20th, 70th, 119th, 231st, 25th, 112th, 73rd & 54th in Training Races, plus 135th in CRHT3 and now 2nd in CRHS4, 3rd Open to Heinz Wilms from Germany, this pigeon has won 135th CRHS1, 19th CRHS2, 771st CRHS3 and now 3rd CRHS4, 4th Open to Gallo and Placeta Loft from United States Of America, 5th Open to Kubacek and Kodl Team from Czech Republic, 6th Open to Palarski – Baranowski from Poland, 7th Open to Dirk Van Dyck from Belgium, 8th Open to Kumar Syndicate from United States Of America, 9th Open to Mike Chafardon from United States Of America, 10th Open to J and J Lofts from Australia, this pigeon has won 6th in CRHS2, 2nd in CRHS3 and now 10th in CRHS4, 11th Open to Team Stieneker – Abrams from Germany, 12th Open to Peter Haraga from Slovakia, 13th Open to Daum and Beneke from Germany, 14th Open to Manchester Maestros from United Kingdom, 15th Open to N+A Evans and Cuthbert from United Kingdom, 16th Open to Milan Mazuch from Czech Republic, 17th Open to Heritage Lofts from Australia, 18th Open to Ganus Family Loft from United Stated Of America, 19th Open to Kulik Prehysl from Czech Republic and then 20th Open to World of Wings from United States Of America.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st UNITED KINGDOM, 14th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to MANCHESTER MAESTROS with pigeon named PLUTOLOGY and bred by CREHAN & O’CONNOR from SALFORD, which was clocked at 10-12-13.76, just 55.48 seconds off the race winner. This partnership also have 3 other pigeons in this race and all have won positions and Nomination money in this race series. It should also be mentioned that this partnership have actually won 20 positions in the top 100 in 21 races, including Training Race 18. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS. Another truly fantastic result for the United Kingdom Team and a total of 2 UK pigeons were officially clocked by 10-19, then 32 by 10-28, 49 by 10-32, then 95 by 10-46, 176 by 11-44, then 187 by 12-07, then 206 by 12-57, then 215 by 13-14, then 228 by 13-46 and then 271 by nightfall at 19-04, which meant 45 were still missing. The clock was left on during Friday and the first pigeon clocked was a UK pigeon at 05-47 and 283 had been clocked by 09-12 and finally 293 by 18-57 leaving 23 still to return to the lofts. A total of 297 were in the lofts for the next race. This represents a 93.99% return rate.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st IRELAND, 81st OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” goes to MAURICE O;DONNELL with his consistent pigeon named PANACKY PEET which was clocked at 10-26-26.03, 14 minutes and 07.75 seconds behind the race winner, this pigeon has been flying exceptionally well and already won 11th, 13th, 1st, 139th and now 81st Open, 2nd Ireland, 96th Open to Bernard Smyth, 3rd Ireland, 168th Open to Finbars, 4th Ireland, 237th Open another for Maurice O’Donnell, 5th Ireland, 628th Open to Hennie + Anette Kallmeyer and then 6th Ireland, 672nd Open to Paul Poole and Son. P and D CLARKE from SEVENASH and MAURICE O’DONNELL from IRELAND both picked up small amounts.
ANOTHER GREAT UNITED KINGDOM TEAM PERFORMANCE.
***THE CAR RACE HOT SPOT ACE PIGEON AVERAGES WHICH CARRIES A US$5,000 CASH 1st PRIZE*** after the first 4 races in this classification stands as follows:- 1st OPEN is held by TEAM STEFANISZYN - MASS from GERMANY with his pigeon named SUGAR SHACK with a combined flying time of 15-09-33.16 which is currently leading this classification by just 42.34 seconds. There are 5 different countries represented in the top 10. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
This cash prize was not won and will now be carried over to TRAINING RACE 17 which will now takes place on Saturday 31st December from 131km (81 miles). The nearest IRELAND pigeon took 237th OPEN for MAURICE O’DONNELL with his pigeon named SNOOPY LOOPY. WELL DONE TO THESE TWO FANCIERS.
The SUN CITY OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 20 races shows as follows:- 1st to RMC LOFT from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named DOUBLE DELIGHT which has a combined flying time of 34-57-56.94 and is currently leading this classification by 2 minutes and 26.39 seconds. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon holds onto 2nd Open and was entered by P & D CLARKE with a pigeon named DANNY C, which was bred by this partnership from SEVENASH which is currently leading this classification by 11 minutes and 56.12 seconds. 3rd Open goes to The Three Tom-Boggies Syndicate with pigeon named Cuckoo and bred by Eddie Thompson from Romford and 4th Open goes to Blanefield Lofts with their pigeon named Caysie Joe. It is fantastic to see the UK team doing se well in this category actually have 7 pigeons in the top 28 in this classification and 13 pigeons in the top 99, which really is a remarkable achievement. The first IRISH pigeon holds 59th Open and belongs to BERNARD SMYTH with his pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE, which is currently leading this classification by 1 hour 23 minutes and 06.12 seconds. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
THE KNOCKOUT COMPETITION started officially now on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 2 on Tuesday 13th December 2011 from 270km (168 miles) and only pigeons that are officially ACTIVATED prior to and BASKETED for the CAR RACE HOT SPOT 1 are eligible to compete for the US$25,000 (£16,667) FIRST PRIZE in the FINAL RACE and this massive cash prize will go to the first one clocked from those still remaining in this classic competition. A grand record breaking total of 3,341 pigeons were officially entered and this included 2,902 International, which included 283 from the United Kingdom, 40 from Ireland, plus 439 from South Africa. This competition runs over the last 4 x CAR RACE HOT SPOTS and THE FINAL RACE and all the remaining ACTIVATED PIGEONS are sent to the 1st Round which takes place on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 2 and 3,341 are entered, of these the first 65% clocked (2,172) will go forward to the 2nd Round, which takes place on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 3 when the first 55% clocked (1,195) will go through to the 3rd Round which will take place on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 when the first 35% clocked (419) will got forward into CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5 when the first 20% clocked (84) will then go forward into THE FINAL RACE on SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012 from 550km (342 miles) and the first one officially clocked will walk away with “THE POT OF GOLD”. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED. A total of 1,195 pigeons got through Round 2 held on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 3, this contained 94 from United Kingdom and 15 from Ireland. I can now reveal that 419 have now got through to Round 3 and this total is made up by 379 International pigeons, with 40 from South Africa, 40 from United Kingdom and 4 from Ireland and these now go through to Round 4, which takes place on CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5 WHICH IS DUE TO TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY 7th JANUARY FROM 390km (243 MILES). GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED.
TRAINING RACE 17 was supposed to take place on Saturday 31st December from 130km (81 miles) but the race organisers decided that as pigeons were still returning from a tough Car Race Hot Spot 4 and the weather forecast was for heavy rain on the appointed race day it was agreed that this race would be cancelled. This would then give all the pigeons a better chance to build themselves up for the next TRAINING RACE 18 which was due to be held on Wednesday 4th January 2012 from 82km (51 miles). A total of 3,878 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,296 International, which included 297 from the United Kingdom and 41 from Ireland, plus 582 pigeons from South Africa. The convoy were liberated at 06-15 in fine and clear conditions, few clouds with a very light tail wind and with a temperature of 20c (68f) and a steady race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).
