Cullybackey Open Show
Despite the ice and cold the local Cullybackey HPS attracted fanciers from a wide area and it turned out a class day for visiting lofts, from East Antrim Victor Montgomery and G & R Lawrie had the Red Card in YB Through Wires and YB Handled, Alwyn Neill from Donaghcloney in County Down won both OB Through Wires and OB Eye-sign and also Best Opposite Sex and from Ballymena & District J & B Balmer had the Red Card in Old Bird Handled and also Best in Show with just over 250 birds penned. For the local club Russell Bros were under very strong pressure in their favourite Eye-sign classes but did collect the Red Card in the Young Birds. Jack Balmer completed a very good day by having Most Points in Show. Judges travelled from Ballyclare and included National winner Robin Duddy, Victor Thompson, Nat Champion Leslie Woodside, and Arnold Thompson. Club Secretary Edrick Davidson thanked all those who helped out over the weekend, main sponsor the Bridge Garage, and those who supplied prizes and supported the raffle. He thanked the judges who had travelled from East Antrim and congratulated the top winners. In the local club Show Series which finished last week winning trophies were presented to J & J Greer Most Club Points and J & B Balmer (Ballymena & Dist) Top Visitor Points. The Ballymena & Dist Show will take place in the Cullybackey Clubrooms on Monday 2nd January. Before that we have the Annual Boxing Day Show for the Kells & District, usual 3 in 1 with penning from 11.00am until 2.00pm and prizes for all cards. Watch press for further details.

It turned out a super evening for young Robert Turkington from Doagh & Dist, not only winning the Raffle but also the Card Winners and Best in Show. Ace show man Bertie Blair won the Fancy class for the local club. Broughshane & District – Dinner & Prize-night
The venue for our Annual dinner and Prize Distribution was once again the Michelin Athletic Club, Ballymena on Saturday night the 19th November 2011. A good attendance of around 65 members and friends were welcomed by the Secretary Harry Smyth, and all sat down to a very enjoyable four course meal. After which he thanked the chef Charlie and his staff for an excellent service, and also the Michelin AC for the use of the room. The secretary then high lighted some performances by members and their birds and congratulated all the prize-winners on their season’s achievements. The leading lofts were: J & N Simpson, G Connolly, A Purvis, H Smyth & Son, D Houston & Son, J McNaghten & Son, Mrs M Smyth, R Wylie, T & E Service and C Quaite completing the Top 10. As it is always the tradition for a member’s wife or family member to hand out the prizes, the secretary called upon the Treasurers wife Mrs Maisy Houston to do the presentations. After a vote of thanks for a job well done the secretary Harry Smyth then presented her with a lovely bouquet of flowers in appreciation. The clubs raffle every year is always very successful and this year was no exception. Club Treasurer Davy Houston thanked all those who gave prizes or helped in any way to make the night a success. He then thanked the secretary and his wife Joan for having the Cups and Trophies all looking well; their help through out the year as Club Secretary and Ring Secretary and the night and proceedings so well organised. He then also presented Harry’s wife with a bouquet of flowers for her help. After that it was a night of chat fun and dancing and very soon it was time again to go home and a good night was had by all.

Portadown Invitation FC
The annual dinner and prize distribution was held in the Stonebridge Restaurant with the special guest being Neil Frazer of Frazer Animal Feeds Banbridge. After an excellent meal the cups were presented by Neil. The top open position was won by John Gordon who was 7th out of an entry of 27,081 birds from Tullamore young birds and John won 4 races including Talbenny Old bird. Allan Mc Donald won 10 races and won the Young Bird and Combined Averages along with the John Livingstone Cup for Combined Points. Malcolm Livingstone had another great year, as we have come to expect, and won 8 races. His highlights included winning the Penzance Old Bird Classic, the Old Bird averages and the Hyde Cup for the Cross Channel averages. Billy Cooke enjoyed success in the Penzance Young Bird National and lifted the George A Willis Trophy for the Highest Points in all Nationals. The new partnership of Hagan, Rowney and Montgomery had a great win in the Talbenny Young Bird National and lifted the Cassells cup.

Portadown Invitation FC
The annual dinner and prize distribution was held in the Stonebridge Restaurant with the special guest being Neil Frazer of Frazer Animal Feeds Banbridge. After an excellent meal the cups were presented by Neil. The top open position was won by John Gordon who was 7th out of an entry of 27,081 birds from Tullamore young birds and John won 4 races including Talbenny Old bird. Allan Mc Donald won 10 races and won the Young Bird and Combined Averages along with the John Livingstone Cup for Combined Points. Malcolm Livingstone had another great year, as we have come to expect, and won 8 races. His highlights included winning the Penzance Old Bird Classic, the Old Bird averages and the Hyde Cup for the Cross Channel averages. Billy Cooke enjoyed success in the Penzance Young Bird National and lifted the George A Willis Trophy for the Highest Points in all Nationals. The new partnership of Hagan, Rowney and Montgomery had a great win in the Talbenny Young Bird National and lifted the Cassells cup.
