NIPA Roscrea – Results Update
For the third race of the old bird season the NIPA moved on to Roscrea in County Tipperary, the 1st Open winner Joe Devlin from Coalisland topped Sect A in the corresponding race in 2011. Winning velocity was 1279 and for the first time I can remember the result was available on Sunday evening. Early birds were timed across most of the NIPA, 5 x 1st Sect winners were placed in the Top 11 and good returns have been reported in each race to date. With the weather the way it has been that’s more than was expected.

Coleraine/Ballymoney Update -
In the third race of the old bird season the NIPA were in Roscrea, birds were released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind. Over 27,000 birds were competing and it was a good result for lofts in the far flying North West. Best in the Coleraine Triangle was the former Kings Cup winner Anthony McDonnell recording velocity 1255 followed by two birds together for Jimmy Hanson who was best in the Coleraine Triangle in the opening race from Tullamore. Anthony is runner up in the NIPA Sect A finishing a good 8th Open and Hanson & Harpur have their two birds in the Top 12.

Antrim Area Update
Last weekend the NIPA were in Roscrea Co Tipperary, birds released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind, a steady race was expected. In the two races flown from Tullamore the Fleming Bros from Crumlin & Dist topped the NIPA Sect B on both occasions with the same bird. It was a fantastic start for the loft that were the current Sect B Fanciers of the Year in 2011, early indications are that after having the early bird again from Roscrea they might just again win 1st NIPA Sect B. So far they have been the most consistent loft, winner this time a Blue widowhood hen timed at 13.12hrs flying 132 miles recording velocity 1213. Muckamore had the best bird in the local area, A & E Bell who race in the East Antrim Sect C record velocity 1239 with a 2 year old Blue cock.

Obituary Margaret Ross of Glenavy - The members of Glenavy & Dist were sad to learn of the passing of Mrs Margaret Ross just a short time after husband Jim who was a founder member of the club and a Past President. Both were in advanced years and were dedicated members for many years, Margaret had been involved with the Ladies Committee when the club like many others was a lot larger that today. For the third race of the old bird programme the Mid Antrim Combine where over 3,000 birds were competing were released in Roscrea in County Tipperary. Liberation was at 10.00am and a steady race was expected in the North Easterly wind. The best bird locally was timed by Charlie McManus at his loft on the main Antrim Road, he records velocity 1212. Old Hand Charlie, now 86 years young is showing the younger generation just how it’s done. He is followed by Harry Boyd 1st Kells & Dist (1210), Alan Darragh 1st Cullybackey (1204) the MAC winner last week and Billy & Joe Smyth 1st Ballymena & Dist (1201), last seasons top prize-winners winning for the first time this year. Their yearling Blue cock was timed at 13.34hrs flying 146 miles to the Carniny Road. Good returns are reported again, we are going well.

The leading lofts were in the West Sect with the high flying Roy Irwin from Dundonald taking 1st & 3rd Open with the winner doing velocity 1220. Runner-up just part of a yard behing A Cousins & Son who had 1st Club Ballylesson. For the third race of the old bird season the NIPA moved on to Roscrea in County Tipperary, the 1st Open winner Joe Devlin from Coalisland topped Sect A in the corresponding race in 2011. Winning velocity was 1279 and for the first time I can remember the result was available on Sunday evening. Early birds were timed across most of the NIPA, 5 x 1st Sect winners were placed in the Top 11 and good returns have been reported in each race to date. With the weather the way it has been that’s more than was expected.

Coleraine/Ballymoney Update -
In the third race of the old bird season the NIPA were in Roscrea, birds were released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind. Over 27,000 birds were competing and it was a good result for lofts in the far flying North West. Best in the Coleraine Triangle was the former Kings Cup winner Anthony McDonnell recording velocity 1255 followed by two birds together for Jimmy Hanson who was best in the Coleraine Triangle in the opening race from Tullamore. Anthony is runner up in the NIPA Sect A finishing a good 8th Open and Hanson & Harpur have their two birds in the Top 12.

Antrim Area Update
Last weekend the NIPA were in Roscrea Co Tipperary, birds released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind, a steady race was expected. In the two races flown from Tullamore the Fleming Bros from Crumlin & Dist topped the NIPA Sect B on both occasions with the same bird. It was a fantastic start for the loft that were the current Sect B Fanciers of the Year in 2011, early indications are that after having the early bird again from Roscrea they might just again win 1st NIPA Sect B. So far they have been the most consistent loft, winner this time a Blue widowhood hen timed at 13.12hrs flying 132 miles recording velocity 1213. Muckamore had the best bird in the local area, A & E Bell who race in the East Antrim Sect C record velocity 1239 with a 2 year old Blue cock.

Obituary Margaret Ross of Glenavy - The members of Glenavy & Dist were sad to learn of the passing of Mrs Margaret Ross just a short time after husband Jim who was a founder member of the club and a Past President. Both were in advanced years and were dedicated members for many years, Margaret had been involved with the Ladies Committee when the club like many others was a lot larger that today. The leading lofts were in the West Sect with the high flying Roy Irwin from Dundonald taking 1st & 3rd Open with the winner doing velocity 1220. Runner-up just part of a yard behing A Cousins & Son who had 1st Club Ballylesson. Gordon Bros & Sons who had 1st in both Cloughey and Killyleagh Central two birds together recording velocity 1209, followed by G & P Brown of Annsborough.
