NIPA Race/Date – Clonmel Saturday 5th May 2012
For the fourth old bird race the NIPA moved on to Clonmel in County Tipperary, almost 29,000 birds were released at 10.45am in a Light North East wind. The best bird was timed by the ace loft of Tandragee Alan Craig to take 1st Sect E and 1st Open NIPA doing velocity 1375. Four 1st Sect winners placed in the Top 10, it was another very successful race with good returns. Next week the race will be from Fermoy followed the week after that by the Rosscarbery OB Inl Nat.

For the second week Anthony McDonnell has the early birds locally best in the Coleraine Triangle with a velocity 1303, followed by Rullell McAlary and Leslie Madden. Darren Tosh wins 1st Coleraine & County Derry (1293), and Horner & Scott have two birds together to take 1st & 2nd in Windsor Social (1291). The NIPA birds were released in Clonmel at 10.45am in a Lt NE wind.

For the fourth race in the old bird season the NIPA were in Clonmel with birds released at 10.45am in a Lt NE wind. Fleming Bros from Crumlin & Dist have won all the races to date in the first three the loft won 1st NIPA Section B. From Clonmel they will be up near the top again with the winner doing velocity 1335. Decimal point finish for the East Antrim based lofts of Jimmy Courtney and Mr & Mrs Bell in the Muckamore HPS. The winner for Jimmy was a yearling Cheq cock recording velocity 1321.943.

Pigeon World had their 1st Old Bird Open Race of the 2012 season on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 from Mullingar. 22 members sent 607 birds and they were liberated at 9am and result came to a photo finish!

Darragh leads the way from Clonmel -
Ace racer Alan Darragh was the loft to beat at the weekend, racing fantastic all season winning all three starts in Cullybackey, from Clonmel he had the top seven arrivals timed to his famous Swallow Brae Lofts at Fenaghy Road Galgorm. Birds were released in the Co Tipperary venue at 10.45am in a Lt North East wind, it has been a head-wind in all the races so far but the returns have been good. With two Blue hens on Roundabout, Alan scores his best result to date 1st & 2nd in the Mid Antrim Combine with over 3,000 birds competing and looking like 1st & 2nd in the NIPA Sect B. Harry Boyd was next best 1st Kells & Dist (1335) racing a good team of widowhood cocks and Martin Graham 1st Ballymena & Dist (1332) with his good yearling Mealy cock winning 4 x 1sts and the best bloodlines of the Oroory Hill Stud in Dromore.
The arrangements for Cullybackey Centre are slightly changed this year, two members from each local club are required to attend and assist with the race marking, and clock checking. The first National Race is Rosscarbery due to be flown on Saturday 19th May. Cullybackey will be open on the Thursday evening between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to collect the club cheque etc and then the race marking will be Friday 18th May between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, this is earlier than before. Birds for the Roscrea Comeback must be in Cullybackey, as early as possible, the transporter will leave the site at 7.00pm. Clocks will be set after that on Friday.

For the fourth old bird race the NIPA moved on to Clonmel in County Tipperary, almost 29,000 birds were released at 10.45am in a Light North East wind. The best bird was timed by the ace loft of Tandragee Alan Craig to take 1st Sect E and 1st Open NIPA doing velocity 1375. Four 1st Sect winners placed in the Top 10, it was another very successful race with good returns. Next week the race will be from Fermoy followed the week after that by the Rosscarbery OB Inl Nat.

Pigeon World had their 1st Old Bird Open Race of the 2012 season on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 from Mullingar. 22 members sent 607 birds and they were liberated at 9am and result came to a photo finish!

Darragh leads the way from Clonmel -
Ace racer Alan Darragh was the loft to beat at the weekend, racing fantastic all season winning all three starts in Cullybackey, from Clonmel he had the top seven arrivals timed to his famous Swallow Brae Lofts at Fenaghy Road Galgorm. Birds were released in the Co Tipperary venue at 10.45am in a Lt North East wind, it has been a head-wind in all the races so far but the returns have been good. With two Blue hens on Roundabout, Alan scores his best result to date 1st & 2nd in the Mid Antrim Combine with over 3,000 birds competing and looking like 1st & 2nd in the NIPA Sect B. Harry Boyd was next best 1st Kells & Dist (1335) racing a good team of widowhood cocks and Martin Graham 1st Ballymena & Dist (1332) with his good yearling Mealy cock winning 4 x 1sts and the best bloodlines of the Oroory Hill Stud in Dromore.
The arrangements for Cullybackey Centre are slightly changed this year, two members from each local club are required to attend and assist with the race marking, and clock checking. The first National Race is Rosscarbery due to be flown on Saturday 19th May. Cullybackey will be open on the Thursday evening between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to collect the club cheque etc and then the race marking will be Friday 18th May between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, this is earlier than before. Birds for the Roscrea Comeback must be in Cullybackey, as early as possible, the transporter will leave the site at 7.00pm. Clocks will be set after that on Friday.
