Homer's Odyssey/NIPA - 08/05/09
Posted: Tue May 05, 2009 3:47 pm
What a start we have enjoyed to the O/Bird racing season of 2009, the NIPA are a 1/3 way through their programme and it has been an incredible season so far, some would argue not hard enough, but then I can see their point as we have been used to such difficult conditions for so many years, this is something of a new thing, with the vast majority of lofts still sitting with the same number they started with. I have just tonight Sunday received the NIPA Result for Roscrea which shows a very encouraging entry of 27,770 pigeons sent by 1,223 members, I suppose this very well could be the kind of entry for the next couple of weeks until we approach the Channel. Let’s hope the great conditions and enjoyable racing continues. Enjoy I say.
This weeks report I bring you a ‘Block Buster’ 140 results, the biggest ever in my time of scribing, it all doesn’t come together without commitment firstly from the regular supporters who supply the results weekly, whether I might add if they are in the result or not, they are a true credit to their fellow members and the sport. We owe a great deal of gratitude to them. This is matched by myself and overseen by fellow BHW and RP scribe Adie McCormick who looks after the www.pigeonnetwork.com site making sure that every body who submits a result is taken care off and the members get the due publicity they deserve on as many fronts as possible. We now give up going to bed on a Sunday evening as the deadlines continue to tighten up on all fronts including the Weekly pigeon books plus the many weekly newspapers which I submit columns to.
Please remember we are here for anybody and everybody, if your Club isn’t mentioned in the 140 listed we didn’t get it, we are not discriminating against you, this perhaps is your opportunity, yes you, don’t wait on somebody else doing it, you drop us a line via the email at the end of the column or give us a ring. We will only be to happy to include your Club result and any news you have. If you think a club member deserves a loft profile give Adie a ring on 028 92 604778, he will as usual give an a very detailed and in-depth report as he has proven over the last number of years on a number of loft profiles, these will also be listed on the pigeonnetwork.com website for the world wide membership to view. Anyway that’s it for me this week I trust you enjoy the column which has taken a combined total of 60 hours to produce over 2 days. Amazing that it takes all the man hours from fellow fanciers who either phone or write an email, then we put it all together with some research, hours and hours of work and it takes the average reader less than 30mins to read. On a final note we are very appreciative of the space that both the BHW and RP give the column which they then spend hours editing before it goes to press, space is limited as sadly it just isn’t an Irish publication, so if your looking the full report with club positions up to the top 10 then log onto the website for a no holes barred report.
The Mighty NIPA where in Clonmel at the weekend liberating at 10.30am in glorious conditions in Clonmel wind was West S/West. As we go to press the best reported pigeon was in the Newry area, Pat Doran has just returned to the sport after several years, in fact decades. When at school he raced in the Newry & Dist but never stayed involved only coming back into the sport in the last two seasons. He has made a big impression winning two young bird races last season in the Millvale HPS and finishing 2nd Open NIPA, 4th Open NIPA and a 10th Open NIPA to his credit. This latest result could beat them all timing his 2 year old Blue Cheq hen at 12.43hrs recording velocity 1808 for the 137 miles. The hen has had all races so far and is racing un-mated, Pat said she was racing home to him. She was bred from top Belgium stock obtained from Liam McKiverigan of Gilford who has left the sport, these middle distance birds have performed up to Penzance. Pat has had a lot of help and support from the local fancy including Tommy Mooney, Noel Murtagh and Bobby Woods, they are all keeping fingers crossed.
Last weekend the NIPA were in Clonmel for the forth race in the old bird programme, birds were released at 10.30am in a helping West SW wind. The A & R McAuley team up near Portrush had the top bird in the Coleraine Triangle, Robbie Callaghan & Son who were 2nd Open NIPA last week from Roscrea will be well placed again 1st Coleraine Premier (1729).

Had a nice email from my good friend up in that part of the country who tells me that the Rock Pigeon Club are now into their new Club Rooms in the Country Park area of the town. They are planning on purchasing their own Van for the training of the members pigeons and are looking forward to starting with the ETS.

With showers forecast for later in the day the NIPA liberated a little earlier at 10.30am in Clonmel County Tipperary in a West SW wind.
