Roy Irwin Tops Combine From Pilmore Beach (1)

For the 5th race of the season the EDC were in Pilmore Beach and after a couple of weeks of not being able to get a Saturday race the weather on Saturday was suitable for racing and the birds were away at 10am into a light mainly West wind with a touch of South in it and the leading birds made good time with the top velocities in the 1500’s with the early birds being to members of Dundonald, Ballylesson, Newtownbreda, Comber & Crossgar with Annsborough’s D Crockery & son at 6th open topping the East section .
The Open winner this week is the Combine’s Race Controller Roy Irwin whose winner recorded a 7ypm lead from the next bird which was to Ballylesson’s John Patterson . Good to see Roy who works hard week by week to ensure that we all get the best race possible winning this one ,the top places Open and section are :

Once again the winner of the 2bird club finishes near the top in the Open with Reggie Moore & son 5th open . Good to see our driver Gary Lyttle in the result and John Patterson had another good result with both his entries on the sheet.

It is hard to believe but it won’t be too long until we are across the channel and this week sees the first of the Derby races with the Joe Ringland Skibbereen Classic due to be flown on Saturday May 16th and I would be grateful for information on the top placed birds for next week’s column .
