The opening race of the old bird season was flown from Mullingar, birds were released at 9.45am in a helping South Westerly wind. It was still pretty cold and heavy showers and even snow was reported over the route, the sun was out in Mid Antrim. The best birds were recorded in Rasharkin & District with J & M Milliken timing a Blue Lambrecht hen on total widowhood at 11.52am recording velocity 1517 for the 109 miles.

The first race of the 2016 old bird season began on Saturday with great success for the partnership of McFall & McManus. Eight members sent a total of 175 birds. McFall & McManus timed at 11.51am flying 100 miles with a Blue yearling hen racing on natural system and bred by Paddy McManus Ahoghill. They also take the show special - well done!! Many thanks to the hard workers that set the club up for racing, crates and clocks etc excellent effort. The club will discuss the situation regarding MAC after race marking on Friday, we start ringing at 6.00pm.

Mid Antrim Combine Winners - Stewart Bros won the New North Cup vel 1520, best average Bude & Talbenny YB Nat, Hugh Boyd William McIlhagga Memorial Cup for the best bird from St Malo in France and Houston Bros won 1st Mid Antrim Combine St Allouestre Kings Cup Grand Nat.
Stewart Bros had a great result in the second race of the old bird season from Tullamore 94/2384 1st & 2nd MAC with the winner doing velocity 1506. From Bude 73/569 they scored another 1st & 2nd MAC, winner this time recorded velocity 1523.
Many congratulations to Old Hand Hugh Boyd from Randalstown, seven years on the trot he has timed in the OB Nat winning 3 x 1sts and 4 x 2nds with this season best of all. He recorded his bird at 16.35hrs flying 467 miles for velocity 1430. Finishing 1st MAC, 1st Sect & 3rd Open NIPA 434/1477 and collects the Bronze Diploma, last year he finished 7th Comb & Sect plus 46th Open NIPA timing on the second day at 13.13hrs just over 100 birds home. Houston Bros 647 and W & W Gilbert also timed arrivals for a good club result in a hard race.
A week later in the Kings Cup from St Allouestre Houston Bros won 1st MAC on velocity 1405, H Boyd and Percy Son & Murphy had birds together for 3rd & 4th MAC and Hugh Boyd had two further arrivals.
In the young birds Steward Bros won 1st MAC from Roscrea (1) 92/2942, a very fast race with the winner recording velocity 2072. Super season for the loft with 3 x 1st MAC, and 2 x 2nd MAC. Entries for the seasons Champions League include, Stewart Brothers, F & G & J Dickey, D Logan & Son and H Boyd.
Sales re Len Russell, Cullybackey –
At the present time birds are being sorted for disposal of stock on behalf of the late Len Russell, Ken Wilkinson will hold three sales in the Chimney Corner Football Club first of which has been arranged for Thursday 14th April at 8.00pm with birds on view from 7.00pm. The stock birds including the very best of Busschaet, Heylens, Dordins, Panis etc. Pedigrees are brief but the quality is top drawer. The second sale will be the race team followed by the final sale of multi-award winning Eye-sign Family. No birds will or have been sold prior to the above sales.
