Excellent Talbenny Entry for Mighty NIPA

Last weekend seen the start of the cross channel racing for the O/Birds with all of the Northern Ireland based organisations all in Talbenny, South Wales and with Summer like conditions all over the Country no time was wasted in getting the birds up with the East Down Combine the first to go at 9.30am in a South Easterly breeze. The NIPA who where also transporting the Ulster Federation liberated 30 minutes later and the mass of pigeons from both organisations cleared without delay. My understanding is that the NIPA could very well have transported a record number of Talbenny entries at the weekend. As we go to press early indications are that the Rocket Ronnie Williamson is looking like the NIPA Open winner and if so that would be an incredible 53 x NIPA 1st Opens.

The Awesome Ronnie Williamson of Bondhill heading for 53 x 1st NIPA Open's following Talbenny success.

In the Ulster Federation the best velocity is that of Rab Braniff of the Wheatfield HPS who is having an awesome season to date. The East Down Combine were also in Talbenny and the best reported pigeon we have is raced by the Kevin and Kristopher Rooney team of Annalong, well done to all the winners over the weekend. As for the other organisations in Ireland the Irish South Road Federation liberated in both Pilmore Beach and Sennen Cove, the East Coast Federation where also in Talbenny and they liberated also at 10.00am, the Munster Federation whose programme is running one week behind were in Cookstown and liberated at 8.00am and finally the South Leinster Federation were in Castletownbere and liberated at 9.30am and also its members were part of the IHU National race which was liberated at 8.00am. For us it was a busy weekend with the INFC holding its first National of the year on Thursday so it was out and about both on Friday and Saturday getting the news gathered up on the Provisional Top Ten, which has been supplied to the weeklies as a separate report, and no let up with this report which contains over 110 results from Clubs all over Northern Ireland, and a few from the South of Ireland once again it all couldn’t be done without the dedication of the fanciers who send the results and reports each week, also we would like to thank everyone who has assisted in any way during the weekend in getting the news to us to enable it all to be published when its fresh your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Well done to Mo McCorriston who timed a very good arrival into Dromore and one that will surely figure highly in the Section result if indeed not winning it, the Scott boys also put in a good performance with three in the top ten of the Club result, Derek & Ian are next best in third place ahead of the Kelly operation in fourth Philip & Joe Boal timed a couple of brothers to finish 6th & 8th Club with only nine away having sent to the National mid-week were the loft will likely finish with five in the Open result, it has been a good couple of weeks for the Brothers having supplied the Pearson family with pigeons that bred the NIPA Open winner a couple of weeks back and also Wilf Evans of Kingswood finished 7th Open on Thursday from the Skibbereen National with a pigeon bred by the Boal Brothers.

Hills & Maze 6/120 – 1st C Lyons 1725, 2nd C Lyons 1613, 3rd C Lyons 1610, 4th C Lyons 1567, 5th Lavery Bros 1551, 6th H Jennings & Sons 1545, 7th C Lyons 1510, 8th H Jennings & Sons 1498, 9th Lavery Bros 1473, 10th Lavery Bros 1466. What a result for Carson Lyons from Talbenny no easy thing taking the first four in the strong and competitive Hills & Maze on a day like Talbenny turned out to be. Excellent flying Carson collecting your third red card of the year. Gary Jennings and father Henry have also had a terrific year to date and Gary emailed me some info on their winners of last week remembering they won the three Clubs that they competed in they topped the Lagan Valley RPC with a blue cock racing on the roundabout coming down from a Hartog hen of Gary Shaw’s which the father and son team won at a ballet during their annual dinner a few years ago. The Sire is a Soontjen/Van Reet carrying all the top lines of the Mardon pigeons and the exceptional Hutchinson National winning loft. The winner “29” is a full brother to our their good Blue cock “28” who won 1st Club, 1st Section D and 1st Club and 4th Section D from Tullamore two weeks on the trot this year. The Hills & Maze winner was once again a Blue a hen this time but the same bloodlines as the previous winner. From Rosscarbery in the Hills & Maze they also topped the club completing the hat trick with a yearling Mealy cock of Soontjen breeding from Hutchinson when mated to a Louella Van Reet.
