Mid Antrim Combine birds were in Roscrea for the third race of the old bird season and for the second week on the trot they had a headwind, birds released at 10.30am in a Lt Northerly wind. Stewart Bros who fly in Randalstown had the big early bird flying to The Grange just outside Ahoghill. Their 2 year old Blue Pied hen was a Causeway bred Staf van Reet, the hen was timed at 13.40hrs flying 140 miles. Next best were J Eagleson & Sons who won Ballymena & District and had another fantastic card followed by Young McManus & Sons, Paddy has won all three races in Ahoghill. Teams for the Champions League are as follows. Ballymena & Dist – Blair & Rankin, W & J Smyth, George Connolly and McFall & McManus. Ahoghill – Young McManus & Sons, C Moore, M/M Robinson and J Smyth & Son. Randalstown – Stewart Bros, F & G & J Dickey, Hugh Boyd and D Logan & Son. Rasharkin – Danny Dixon, Steele & McNeill, J & M Milliken and J & D Surgenor. This week we were in Roscrea and 19 members sent 501 birds. For the second week J Eagleson & Sons won. Today they timed at 1.52pm with a velocity 1275.939 the bird is a Dark Chequered cock and race using the Roundabout System. The winning bird has already had 2 x 2nds, 3rd and a 5th. The sire is pure Eagleson Busschaert from storming Norman and White Cheeks, the dam is a Boxford Busschaert bought from Louella Pigeon World. Last week’s winner came in second. This week’s show special was won by McFall & McManus for the third consecutive week - well done Charlie !!!
