Top 6 in Open for Mark Foulis but the East Belongs to the Gordons
The East Down Combine were back in Tullamore on August 6th for the second young Bird race from there and for this race the birds had a light Southerly wind to assist them on their passage home and what a race it turned out to be with some lofts turning in really outstanding results and so for this week I have included the full open and Section results so that readers can get the full picture of just how outstanding these results are none more so than that of Mark Foulis of Dundonald who timed 6 birds together for the top 6 places in the Open and West Section and has the first 8 in the club ,winning the EDC is never easy ,to win the top six places -well that is something special , congratulations Mark.
Last week’s Open winners Gordon bros & sons had a record breaking result this week taking all 20 East Section places 18 of which finished in the open result .I Don’t recall any loft taking all of the Section positions in any one race and by any standard this is an outstanding result and you may recall that back in 2011 this loft had 42 birds arrive together in a similar Young bird race . Details of the Gordon’s Birds which were 1st 2nd & 3rd section 20th ,21st & 22nd Open are as follows -Blue cock 1st sect 20th open this cock was 9th open from the 1st Tullamore he is Wall, Lunt,Curtis x Leo Herman bloodlines. The Red hen at 2nd sect, 21st open is van den Bulck x Wynants and the Red cock at 3rd sect 22nd open van den Bulckx Herman bloodlines.
There was only 16ypm between 1st open and 40th open and this from an entry of over 5,000 birds . Some clubs have only one loft appearing on the result sheet ,Ballylesson’s veteran fancier John Patterson takes all 12 in his club ,Doley Croskery and his dad have the top ten in Annsborough ,The Gordons have the top twelve in both Cloughey and Killyleagh Central , Other with great results were Ronnie Johnston who has the first 8 in Comber ,McCartan & Woodsides the first 7 in Crossgar with several other lofts in other clubs having the top one ,two three or five places .
