PORTADOWN & DRUMCREE RPC – 2016 Performances & Cup Winners
Another year of members winning multiple Open and Section prizes with a great performance by Larkin Brothers who were 1st & 5th Section and 1st and 21st Open in the 5 Bird Fermoy. Notable others positions by the partners included 18th North Section, 29th Open Sennen Cove Yearling National, 6th Section 15th Open Sennen Cove Classic, 24th and 55th Open Gowran Park and 60th Open Fermoy. In Rosscarbery OB National 1st and 2nd Club, and in 1st Talbenny with 5 birds in the Open result.
In the Young Bird racing the brothers scored in the Talbenny, Rosscarbery and Skibbereen Nationals and had 9 -1st s in the year.
In all Larkin Bros won 12 Club cups with notable wins in Bude, Yearling National, Skibbereen YB National, Talbenny YB National and Fermoy OB. To top a class years racing the brothers had the Bird of the Year in the OLD and YOUNG BIRDS, won the Old inland average and the Young Bird average and finished Joint 1st Club Champion for 2016.
Partners Martin Hagan & Philip Rowney had another top year with numerous Open and Section positions. Top performances were achieved in taking 2nd Section Mullingar, 27th and 29th Penzance YB National and having the only 2 birds in the club on the day. In St Malo the partners achieved another excellent result by taking 22nd Open again only bird in the club on the day and this followed up last year’s result of 24th Open and again only bird in club on the day.
The Young birds performed superbly and never out of the first 6 in the club when up to 400 birds in some races. In the Gowran Park races the partners had the card of the year by having 10 birds in the Open result. The partners had 7 – 1st clubs and won 11 cups, including Highest Points in all Nationals and won the William McDonald Memorial cup for the most points in the 2 – Bird Club and finished joint 1st Club Champions for 2016.
Allan McDonld had another consistent year and won 1st Talbenny OB and both the Fermoy YBs. His best result was 2nd Section, 9th open in the difficult Fermoy and he was 2nd Club, 18th Section and 50th Open St Malo. He won the Old Bird, Cross Channel and Combined Averages and collected 6 cups.
Malcolm Livingstone had some health issues but still won 5 races, a credit to his birds and his efforts against strong competition. His best result was 15th Section, 135th Open Roscrea OB with 26,890 birds competing.
John Geary & sons had an excellent 4th Section, 9th Open in the Classic. In the Penzance OB again top performances from Bobby Creaney who was 2nd Section, 4th Open and Sloan & Reid took 5th & 9th Section, 14th & 20th Open.
Frank Wright raced and had his old birds in good form and won Tullamore and Fermoy.
The members look forward to 2017 and even more success.
