Super race from Mullingar for Mid Antrim -
The young bird season started last weekend with a series of Area Liberations, race marking was delayed for a day due to poor weather with collections on the Saturday evening and liberation on Sunday 16th July. The local birds with Ballymoney and Coleraine were released in Mullingar at 10.00am in a Lt West NW wind, best birds were recorded at the top end. J & M Milliken from Rasharkin & Dist was 1st & 2nd with the winner doing velocity 1478, also 1st & 2nd in the MAC. Danny Dixon was well placed with five birds together and had the top two places in Ballymoney. Best bird in the town was timed by Blair & Rankin in Ballymena & Dist, the pre-race favourites timed the winner at 13.03hrs recording velocity 1457 for the 102 miles, Surgenor Bros had 1st Kells & Dist (1450) and R H Clements 1st Harryville HPS (1450). Very few members were competing in most club’s, more birds will be expected next week when the race will again be flown from Mullingar.
