Another fantastic entry for the NIPA with almost 21,000 birds competing from Fermoy in County Cork, we were due to be in Talbenny in South Wales but weather conditions forecast for the whole of the weekend were unfavourable. Conditions in Southern Ireland were not perfect either and many liberations were either delayed or the convoy moved and one organisation in Pilmore Beach returned the birds back home. Most considered conditions were good enough to liberate and the NIPA race turned out far from perfect, very few of the longer flying lofts had more than half their birds returned by clock striking. Thankfully a large number have turned in but this race will change the rest of the season, which until now had been great. Johnny Trotter from Laurelvale won 1st Sect E & 1st Open NIPA recording velocity 1199, well done that’s her 3 x 1st Club win, also her uncle is a 1st Open NIPA winner.

It’s tough going from Fermoy -

An erratic race was flown at the weekend from Fermoy in Co Cork, helping conditions and high velocities all year we had the first real headwind and few lofts had more than half the entry back for clock checking. Conditions were good at the home end but less favourable in parts of Southern Ireland. We should have been in South Wales but this was put back for a week due to the weather in Wales over the whole of the weekend. Danny Dixon popped up with the big early bird for 1st MAC and almost topped the NIPA where almost 21,000 birds were competing. This Mealy Sticker Donckers down from Wonderboy lines was Bird of the Year in Ballymoney last season as a young bird and was a gift to Danny from Gary Gibson who has the best of this bloodline. In the club this year it has won 1st, 2nd and 7th with high birdage. Johnston Eagleson had the best bird in Ballymena doing velocity 1157 with a Busschaert.

Antrim Area round-up –

After many weeks of excellent racing all changed last weekend when almost 21,000 birds were released in Fermoy, County Cork, it was not expected to be easy in the East North East wind. The race turned out very erratic and many birds were still missing when the clocks were checked.

We should have been in South Wales for a race but this was changed due to weather conditions in Wales over the whole weekend, our alternative inland race did not work out as planned.

Next week’s race weather permitting on the 2nd June will be 1st Talbenny followed the following week by 2nd Talbenny on the 9th June and the Fermoy 5 bird on the same day, on the 16th June it will now be Bude and the Yearling Cock & Hen Nationals, on the 23rd June it will be Penzance and the Classic and a Fermoy race on the same day and on Friday 29th June it will be your Old Bird National from France. This means that Dunmanway is dropped from the old bird programme, any queries please get in touch.

North Coast Classic (Coleraine) One Loft Race - Most of the youngsters have now had their ETS rings assigned. There are another 40 or so to do. I must apologise as I thought we had enough rings. Some more have been ordered and should be delivered in a few days. Once the rest have been assigned we will publish a loft list. The youngsters are enjoying the sunshine the North Coast is basking in at present. After assignment they were given their freedom and they went ranging for about one and a half hours before returning to enjoy a refreshing bath. Their condition is excellent.
