Yet another super result for Martin Graham of Ballymena & District from Saint Allouestre Kings Cup, clocking two birds on the third morning at 8.45am and 9.1am to win 1st & 2nd Club and 1st & 2nd Mid Antrim Combine flying 504 miles. The first bird timed was a blue yearling cock sent sitting 12 days on eggs. This cock was Martins first bird timed from Penzance two weeks previous winning 3rd club, 30th section and 172nd open in the Classic event. Martin said the Penzance race brought the cock in to great form prompting him to send it to the National. Sire is "Treble One" a son of the "Big Hen" and dam is a daughter of Danny Dixon's YB INFC winner "Dixie Chick" Martins second bird which is closely related to the first one is a two year old blue cock sent sitting 16 days on eggs. It flew Bude as a yearling and was earmarked from the start of the season for the Kings Cup. Sire is from the No.1 stock hen the “Big Hen” when paired to a cock he purchased from Ronnie Williamson which was off his Golden Pair. Dam is a daughter of Golden Boy when paired to a daughter of “Norma” which is the dam of the “Big Hen”. This result comes fresh from his 1st Open INFC Sennen Cove Yearling National win a few weeks ago with “Denman”. Mervyn Eagleson PO.

Some 16 birds were timed on the winning day and that number got up to 100 on the second day with helping conditions, it turned out the best of the season’s races from France. The only bird recorded into the Muckamore Station on the day was timed by Arnold Thompson a dedicated long distance loft from Ballyclare. Twice winner of the event Alan Darragh timed at 10.30am on the second morning into Cullybackey and had a second bird later in the day, Tom Young the Chairman in Ahoghill has had a great old bird season and timed on the second morning for 1st in Mid Antrim Combine. Penzance YB Grand Nat -
The Irish National Flying Club Blue Riband Young Bird National was held on Sunday 9th September with the birds liberated at Penzance in Cornwall at 7.45am in a light south westerly wind. The race was once again sponsored by Frazer’s Animal Feeds, and open to all fanciers in Ireland. Race marking was delayed for several days with weather reports forecast strong north to north easterly winds for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Penzance and on the Irish Sea. The major race of the young bird season was due to be flown on Wednesday 5th September. Only 175 gallant birds had been recorded on the first day with the prize list completed on the second day when we had poor conditions. All told in the season which has been most difficult for a number of reasons it was no surprise the entry was well down, 251 members from across Ireland sent 1326 birds and members were racing for total pools and prizemoney of £14,587. Last season the entry was 380 members and 2251 birds.
Another big INFC National result for this year’s Sennen Cove Yearling national winner Martin Graham. He timed his brave Blue pied cock at 15.40hrs for the 329 mile fly to the Old Cullybackey Road lofts to win 1st Club Ballymena & District and 1st Mid Antrim Combine. The sire is a grandson of the famous Big Hen while the dam is a grand-daughter of Ronnie Williamson's Golden Pair. The young cock was showing to a hen before basketing. Skibbereen North YB Nat - The Irish National Flying Club final race of the 2018 season was delayed due to poor weather conditions, one day its perfect and the next hopeless. The race was due to be flown on Saturday 22nd September but the birds were marked that day for a proposed Monday liberation. Everything worked out well with the birds released in Skibbereen at 9.30am in a light North Westerly wind. After a poor young bird season all round entries were well down and probably not helped with both NIPA and ISRF racing on the same weekend from County Cork. In the Irish Nat FC 232 members across Ireland sent 2,022 birds competing for pools and prize-money of £8,653 a big reduction over the previous three years. In 2017 255/2,275 competing for £9,211, 2016 it was 310/2,966 and 2015 up again at 385/3,622.
