Final YB National races delayed -
Unfavourable conditions again last weekend delayed the final two Young Bird Nationals from County Cork. Birds were race marked on Saturday and then moved to the race point, NIPA to Rosscarbery and the Irish Nat FC to Skibbereen. It had been intended both races would be flown on Monday but with improved conditions the strings were cut on Sunday 23rd September. The NIPA released in Rosscarbery at 9.30am in a North West wind, it was reported the birds cleared well. The INFC released on Monday morning as planned in Skibbereen at . Ensure all claims for awards are made ASAP, including INFC, NIPA, Irish Region and Mid Antrim Combine.
In Mid Antrim the best local bird was timed by Gregg Bros of Kells & District, the Willy Jacobs bird was timed at 16.13hrs flying 253 miles to record velocity 1104, nine minutes clear in the Cullybackey Centre. They look good for the 1st Sect B Diploma, Danny Dixon had the best two birds in the Coleraine Centre 1094 and 1084 and Thompson Bros of Crumlin were best in the Muckamore Centre doing velocity 1093.

Harryville HPS 4/27 – A McBride 1083, 1081, K & K Kernohan 1013, R H Clements 995, K & K Kernohan 993, 977, R H Clements 924, 912, 872, 868. Allen McBride had the top result in the hard final race from Rosscarbery, he had two birds almost together at 16.12hrs with the winner doing velocity 1083. The sire won 16th Open Talbenny and 33rd Open in the Yearling Nat while the dam won Talbenny, a g/dtr of Jimmy Rock’s Talbenny Nat winner Rockies Boy.
Ballymena & District HPS 4/37 – R Service & Son 1047, 1036, Blair & Rankin 1025, R Service & Son 1007, J Eagleson & Sons 987, 977, R Service & Son 976, J Eagleson & Sons 970, Blair & Rankin 962, J Eagleson & Sons 938. Robert Service and son Robin had a great end to the seasons racing winning a tough Rosscarbery National. They timed 6 from their 8 entries and had the top two positions in Ballymena & District. The winning Blue cock feeding a 12 day old youngster was timed at 16.36hrs flying 253 miles. The sire won Rosscarbery cocks National in to Harryville club in 2016 and is a brother to their good 5 x 1st Soontjen x Frans Zwols cock. The dam is off the sire of the good 5 x 1st cock, when paired to a Soontjen hen from Allen McBride of Harryville.
