Surgenor Bros from Kells are best from Fermoy -
In another good race last weekend over 22,000 birds were released in Fermoy County Cork at 10.30am in a Lt North Westerly wind. Best birds locally were timed by Geoff Surgenor from Kells & District, two birds at 3.00pm flying 201 miles completing a Mid Antrim and Seven Towers double for the first time.
The Chairman of the NIPA after having received overwhelming requests from the committee has decided to run this week’s race from either Fermoy or Corrin, race marking will be on Friday. As soon as we are aware of the race point we will update the website.
Ahoghill Centre Marking – All monies for Barleycove OB Inland Nat will be collected on Wednesday 22nd May, the Ballymena & District Clubrooms open from 8.00pm until 8.30pm. Birds will be race marked in Ahoghill on Thursday 23rd May from 3.00pm until 6.00pm, all ETS Clocks to be cleared of all races. T3 Clocks will be set during race marking, retired fanciers can attend early and get away early as well. Centre Fees will be as previous £1 per member and 15p a bird, cheques made payable to Ahoghill Flying Club. Each club using the Ahoghill Centre please add £10 in the first race to cover the season. Cheque for the race entry form including any pools to be made payable as usual to NIPA. Clubs as usual to supply two members, one for race marking and checking and the second to help load transporter. Race will be flown weather permitting on Saturday 25th May. Forms have been sent to each local club, any queries contact Centre Manager Jackie Steele.

Geoff Surgenor had two birds drop together at 3.00pm flying 201 miles to record 1st & 2nd in Kells, and now confirmed as 1st & 2nd in the MAC. The winner is off his good blue hen “Marion” that has now bred three individual winners.

Derek, winning his third race, timed a yearling Blue cock the sire from J & N Lamb and the dam Van Reil at 3.00pm flying 199 miles and best in town just ahead of Jimmy Rock and Roy Clements.
Ballymena & District HPS 11/293 – J Eagleson & Sons 1288, 1288, 1278, 1271, 1268, R Service & Son 1267, W & J Smyth 1267, J Eagleson & Sons 1266, W & J Smyth 1266, J Eagleson & Sons 1263. Johnston Eagleson & Sons have the winner here timing two birds together at 3.05pm for the 201 mile journey. Both yearling hens flying on roundabout are the same way bred. Sire is a Louis Thijs cock gifted to Johnston by Paddy and William McManus of Ahoghill while the dam is a top Lambrechts stock hen from Danny Dixon of Rasharkin. A full brother won 1st & 4th Combine as a young bird last season. Race sponsored by David Parker Building Contractor.
