Last weekend the Mid Antrim birds were competing from Gowran Park, a late replacement for Talbenny which was ruled out due to very unfavourable weather conditions. Race marking was delayed until Saturday afternoon and the birds were transported to Gowran Park, released on Sunday at 10.15am in a helping South SW wind. A quick race was the order of the day, most birds home in little time from the approx. 160 miles into Mid Antrim. Best birds locally were timed by Harry Boyd in Kells, Roy Clements from Harryville was best in town and Bertie Blair won 1st in Ballymena & District. Members will need to keep a check on the arrangements for this weekend, we are due in Talbenny and also due to have the 5 Bird Championship from Fermoy. Birds for this will be race marked as normal in the local club with the 5Bird clocks returned to Ahoghill Centre.
The NIPA were due last week to have a race from Talbenny in South Wales, the first cross channel race of the old bird season. This was ruled out early with very difficult weather conditions which were also causing problems at the Isle of Man TT event. It was hoped to put on a race in Ireland and the committee made the decision to race mark Saturday for a possible liberation the next day. It all worked out well and with a break in conditions the NIPA released on Sunday at Gowran Park racecourse in Kilkenny at 10.15am in a helping South SW wind. The birds romped home from 155 miles and the best birds were timed in Kells & District with Harry Boyd winning his third race of the year and taking 1st & 2nd in the NIPA Section B.
