To all members of the Irish Homing Union Southern Region

Dear Member,

The IHU Southern Region held a delegate meeting yesterday, 18/8/2019, to discuss pigeon training in the area around Baldonnel Aerodrome.

Large amounts of pigeons have been reported crossing the airfield this season. We have been informed by the Irish Air Corp and the Irish Aviation Authority that this is a safety issue which is affecting safe operation of the airfield. Correspondence received from the IAA highlight the potential catastrophic effects of a bird strike on an aircraft in this area.

Having considered the correspondence from the Air Corp and the IAA and reviewed the number of pigeons reported at Baldonnel delegates have passed the following rule unanimously and with immediate effect:

Fanciers on the Northside of Dublin can train to the north of the N4/M4 motorway OR along the N11/M11 coast road.

Fanciers on the Southside of Dublin can train along the N81 Blessington Road or N11/M11 coast road.

The onus is on fanciers using a communal trainer to know where their pigeons are being liberated.

Anyone breaking this rule will be suspended for a period of 5 years.

Yours in Sport,

Alan Meehan, Secretary IHU Southern Region
