The biggest One Loft Race prize in Europe 2009 some 50,000 euros has been won by http://www.pigeonnetwork.com owner Adie McCormick from Lisburn. Two birds were entered in the event and both including the winner “Cool Lass” were bred by Ballymena fancier Martin Graham. It was the finale to the Galway One Loft competition 130 birds having been released at the Giants Causeway in North Antrim last Sunday. Four birds arrived together at Westwings Lofts in Tuam, Galway and “Cool Lass” trapped first, she has the top bloodlines of Gerald Delaney (Dromore). Thanks for all the messages of support and congratulation from across Ireland including some of the elite of this great sport. It is greatly appreciated not that I had any doubt there were many who appreciate many years of support for the sport.
The Auctions will take place as follows Sunday 30th and Monday 31st of August at the Sarsfield RPC, Ballyfermot, Dublin. The Even Numbers that finished in the race (i.e. 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th etc) will be on view on Sunday 30th of August at 2.00pm with sale starting at 4.00pm Sharp. The sale of the Odd Numbers (i.e. 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th etc) that finished in the race including "Cool Lass" the 2009 Galway One Loft Race winner will be on view at 6.00pm on Monday 31st with sale starting at 8.00pm sharp. Bidding will be on-line first at http://www.pigeonnetwork.com starting Tuesday 25th August.
Other racing last weekend included NIPA at Clonmel, Ulster Fed in Fermoy and East Down Combine in Nenagh. Weather permitting today we have NIPA and Ulster Fed both in Fermoy, and East Down Combine in Mallow. In the One Loft Races Emerald Classic had good conditions for Hotspot 4 yesterday at Roscrea (140 miles), and the North Coast Classic race from Roscrea may be delayed until Monday. The final races will be coming up very soon with North Coast Classic in Coleraine birds flying from Cork City (240 miles) Sunday 6th September and Emerald Classic in Ballyclare birds flying from Rosscarbery (260 miles) Sunday 13th September. Latest news is that Joe Watt has won the Monday Hot Spot at Coleraine with a bird that finished 3rd last time, the sire of this bird was purchased at the pigeon network night last year, a bird presented by P & J Boal, Dromore. Mark McCormick of Larne won the club and will be up at the top of the NIPA result, dam of this bird was purchased at the first pigeon network night two years ago presented again by P & J Boal. To complete the weekend news it looks like Evans & Leahy of Kingswood might top the NIPA Sect D, guess what – another P & J Boal bird. Well done to all concerned.

The Glenavy & District HPS Gold Wing Race sponsored by H Beattie & Son was flown on Wednesday 18th August from Mallow in County Cork, special race rings are purchased for the event and birds that complete the training and race programme in preparation go the final Gold Ring event. Some 60 members sent 273 birds competing for almost £6,000 in pools and prizes.
Overall winners were Cooney Bros from the Monaghan HPS recording velocity 1724 and winning £1,414 which included the £5 Nom and Ladies Nom plus the Gold Wing Trophy sponsored by H Beattie & Son from Tandragee. David Calvin from Bondhill was runner-up doing velocity 1720 and all pooled to collect £1,200 followed by Richard Mulligan from Monaghan, D Calvin with a second bird, David Mawhinney & Son from Beechpark in Lurgan and Sam Corrigan from Loughgall.

Up in Coleraine the top loft for the second week was Robbie van Callaghan, 1st Coleraine Premier, 1st Bushmills and 1st Coleraine Triangle, I keep in touch with Robbie to hear the craic and for the second week he scores a top area result. The Giants Causeway loft one of the longest flyers in the whole of the NIPA are racing top stock obtained direct from Belgium.

The penultimate race before Talbenny Nat was flown from Fermoy in County Cork, despite weather problems again which forced a late decision regarding race marking on Friday the birds were collected as usual and we had an early liberation. The poor weather which was forecast did not arrive to much later in the evening and the NIPA enjoyed another fantastic race on what turned out a good day. In the young bird season it has been so far so good, not a single hold-over and just a few races left to be flown. The Tweed Family from Rasharkin had the big local winner to take 1st Mid Antrim Combine doing velocity 1642, a lot of Rasharkin birds were well placed, the high flying Milliken & Barkley were just pipped this week but had another good card. D & H Stuart have the best reported bird in the NIPA Sect B, winning 1st Ballymoney HPS having timed at 12.17pm the loft records velocity 1663 for the 214 miles. Around Antrim J & N Lamb from Crumlin & Dist time the best local bird a young Blue cock racing on the darkness. It had all the races the loft sent to and was timed at 11.52am flying 187 miles. The sire was Peter McClarence lines Delbar and Janssen and the dam was Grondalaer through Gerald Delaney of Dromore. Jimmy Sinton timed at 12.02pm for 1st Muckamore HPS, the same bird as won the week previous from Clonmel.

John Lamb from Crumlin & Dist with his Blue cock winner from Fermoy. Racing on darkness it had most races to date, timed at 11.52am, flying 187 miles. It was Delbar x Janssen through Peter McClarence on the sire side and G Delaney Grondalaer on the dam side.
Trevor Griffith holding the Eastway winner from last weeks Clonmel race. The pigeon is a Gaby Vandenabeele bred by O'Hare and Woodward of Middlewich Cheshire. In 2007 the O'Hare and Woodward partnership also bred a blue cock for M & T Griffith which topped section C twice.

Other racing last weekend included NIPA at Clonmel, Ulster Fed in Fermoy and East Down Combine in Nenagh. Weather permitting today we have NIPA and Ulster Fed both in Fermoy, and East Down Combine in Mallow. In the One Loft Races Emerald Classic had good conditions for Hotspot 4 yesterday at Roscrea (140 miles), and the North Coast Classic race from Roscrea may be delayed until Monday. The final races will be coming up very soon with North Coast Classic in Coleraine birds flying from Cork City (240 miles) Sunday 6th September and Emerald Classic in Ballyclare birds flying from Rosscarbery (260 miles) Sunday 13th September. Latest news is that Joe Watt has won the Monday Hot Spot at Coleraine with a bird that finished 3rd last time, the sire of this bird was purchased at the pigeon network night last year, a bird presented by P & J Boal, Dromore. Mark McCormick of Larne won the club and will be up at the top of the NIPA result, dam of this bird was purchased at the first pigeon network night two years ago presented again by P & J Boal. To complete the weekend news it looks like Evans & Leahy of Kingswood might top the NIPA Sect D, guess what – another P & J Boal bird. Well done to all concerned.

The Glenavy & District HPS Gold Wing Race sponsored by H Beattie & Son was flown on Wednesday 18th August from Mallow in County Cork, special race rings are purchased for the event and birds that complete the training and race programme in preparation go the final Gold Ring event. Some 60 members sent 273 birds competing for almost £6,000 in pools and prizes.
Overall winners were Cooney Bros from the Monaghan HPS recording velocity 1724 and winning £1,414 which included the £5 Nom and Ladies Nom plus the Gold Wing Trophy sponsored by H Beattie & Son from Tandragee. David Calvin from Bondhill was runner-up doing velocity 1720 and all pooled to collect £1,200 followed by Richard Mulligan from Monaghan, D Calvin with a second bird, David Mawhinney & Son from Beechpark in Lurgan and Sam Corrigan from Loughgall.

Up in Coleraine the top loft for the second week was Robbie van Callaghan, 1st Coleraine Premier, 1st Bushmills and 1st Coleraine Triangle, I keep in touch with Robbie to hear the craic and for the second week he scores a top area result. The Giants Causeway loft one of the longest flyers in the whole of the NIPA are racing top stock obtained direct from Belgium.

The penultimate race before Talbenny Nat was flown from Fermoy in County Cork, despite weather problems again which forced a late decision regarding race marking on Friday the birds were collected as usual and we had an early liberation. The poor weather which was forecast did not arrive to much later in the evening and the NIPA enjoyed another fantastic race on what turned out a good day. In the young bird season it has been so far so good, not a single hold-over and just a few races left to be flown. The Tweed Family from Rasharkin had the big local winner to take 1st Mid Antrim Combine doing velocity 1642, a lot of Rasharkin birds were well placed, the high flying Milliken & Barkley were just pipped this week but had another good card. D & H Stuart have the best reported bird in the NIPA Sect B, winning 1st Ballymoney HPS having timed at 12.17pm the loft records velocity 1663 for the 214 miles. Around Antrim J & N Lamb from Crumlin & Dist time the best local bird a young Blue cock racing on the darkness. It had all the races the loft sent to and was timed at 11.52am flying 187 miles. The sire was Peter McClarence lines Delbar and Janssen and the dam was Grondalaer through Gerald Delaney of Dromore. Jimmy Sinton timed at 12.02pm for 1st Muckamore HPS, the same bird as won the week previous from Clonmel.

John Lamb from Crumlin & Dist with his Blue cock winner from Fermoy. Racing on darkness it had most races to date, timed at 11.52am, flying 187 miles. It was Delbar x Janssen through Peter McClarence on the sire side and G Delaney Grondalaer on the dam side.
Trevor Griffith holding the Eastway winner from last weeks Clonmel race. The pigeon is a Gaby Vandenabeele bred by O'Hare and Woodward of Middlewich Cheshire. In 2007 the O'Hare and Woodward partnership also bred a blue cock for M & T Griffith which topped section C twice.
