The Cullybackey HPS Open Show was held last weekend and despite poor weather had another good entry, nothing like however the 700 birds which were penned the last time the judges made a visit many years back. They travelled from Newtownbreda HPS in Belfast and included Fleming Keery and the former East Down Combine Fanciers of the Year Brian & Richard Hogg. Birds on show will qualify for the £100 Special sponsored by the Bridge Garage and raced over two races during 2010. T & K Mawhinney from Donacloney won four classes and the Best in Show and Most Points in Show. J & J Greer who won the Club Show Shield for the first time had Best Opposite Sex and J & C Balmer from Ballymena who won the Visitors Cup in the Show Series had the Red Card in YB Eye-sign. For the local club Russell Bros had 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Old Bird Eye-sign. The Derry City North West Open Show of the Year will be held in Long Tower Youth Club beside the Brandywell Football Grounds on Sunday 27th December. Admission is £2.00, Exhibitors are Free, penning is from 11.00am until 1.00pm, birds will be judged between 1.30pm and 4.30pm. DVD Entertainment, Hot Food and Beverages available. Five classes OC & OH Handled, YC & YH Handled and Eye-sign, prizes for all classes including cash and feeding. A Fund Raising Auction will begin at 2.30pm a draft of 2010 youngsters donated by a number of top lofts including A Hall, Diamond Bros, T McCrudden, P OConnor, K Murphy, H McLaughlin, M Hamilton, P Maxwell etc. I look forward to giving the event some coverage. Carrick & District HPS Mr & Mrs R Reid win the Show Average for 2009. The annual Open Show will be held on New Years Day Friday 1st January 2010 with penning between 1.00 and 2.00pm. The Breeder & Buyer Sale will be held during the show, another good attendance is expected.
Doagh & District HPS will be having their annual Moot in McConnells of Doagh on the 8th January, a date for the diary. The panel will be Brian & Ricky Hogg of Newtownbreda, East Down Combine Fancier of the Year 2004 and 2005, J & J Hollinger (Millisle) one of Irelands top long distance fliers, and Davy Campbell of Campbell & Bigger, (Glengormley), NIPA Section C Fancier of the Year 2008 and 2009. UK rep for Benzing will also be there giving a ETS demonstration and anyone wishing to purchase the Benzing ETS will be able to at the price of £198. There will also be a light supper and ballot, £5.00 per head to pay at door.

Annaghmore HPS A grand finish to the show season with the Christmas Show held on Thursday 17th December. Some 112 superbly turned out birds were penned for the judges Alan Hall and Alan Kelly who had travelled from Omagh. The top honours were won by Glen Buckley and T & K Mawhinney. It is my sad duty to report the passing of John (Rocky) Reid the very popular Secretary of Drumcree Pigeon Club after a long hard fight against his illness. He was one in a million and gave full commitment to everything he was involved in, until it was dissolved he was also the Secretary of the Northern Ireland Channel Federation and never failed to publish the results. John will be sadly missed by all his friends, sincere condolences to his wife Jennifer and family.

Annaghmore HPS A grand finish to the show season with the Christmas Show held on Thursday 17th December. Some 112 superbly turned out birds were penned for the judges Alan Hall and Alan Kelly who had travelled from Omagh. The top honours were won by Glen Buckley and T & K Mawhinney. It is my sad duty to report the passing of John (Rocky) Reid the very popular Secretary of Drumcree Pigeon Club after a long hard fight against his illness. He was one in a million and gave full commitment to everything he was involved in, until it was dissolved he was also the Secretary of the Northern Ireland Channel Federation and never failed to publish the results. John will be sadly missed by all his friends, sincere condolences to his wife Jennifer and family.
The Derry City Open Show will be held beside the Brandywell Football Grounds on Sunday 27th December, I look forward to giving the event some coverage. I had a bit of bother downloading the poster, the joys of this computer age.
