Big 2009 Season for Doagh & District -

McConnells Lounge was the venue for the annual dinner and prize night for the local Doagh & District HPS, a real hot-bed of racing in the East Antrim area. Mr & Mrs Brian McNeilly won most races and were the top cash winners with £450. Total prize-money was £1,900, and total payout £3,600 a fantastic effort. The leading lofts were – M/M McNeilly, J & A Wilson & Sons, A & N Lewis, John Blair, Fred Simpson, D & N Smyth, S & A Leitch, M/M Suitters, J McGrugan & Son, Robert Wilson, William McClelland, Collins & Pursley, Wesley Cowan, Denis Tweedie, Elliott & McClean and Thomas Lorimer. Over the 21 club races 19 members sent just short of 6,000 birds. Wesley Cowan won £750 in the Rosscarbery Breeder/Buyer and from Talbenny Joe Smyth was the Breeder and A & N Lewis Buyer, both lofts won £480.
The A & N Lewis team racing with the INFC had the best bird in the Muckamore Centre in the Old Bird Skibbereen finishing 5th Open, this added to best again in the Young Bird Skibbereen finishing 7th Open won the loft the Charles Hunniford Memorial Trophy for Best Ave North Sect in both Skibbereen Nationals. Racing with the NIPA Mr & Mrs McNeilly who had a super season won 1st Open in the Fermoy race for young birds winning the S Montgomery Cup. They also won the Irish Region Trophy for NIPA Champion YB of the Year. Mr & Mrs D Suitters collected a Bronze Diploma with a bird that has won 14th Sect C & 50th Open NIPA St Malo in 2008 and 4th Sect C & 43rd Open NIPA St Malo in 2009.

M/M D Suitters: 12th Open INFC Kings Cup Plaudren Vannes winning £1,043 at 500 miles, 4th Sect C & 43rd Open NIPA St Malo OB National, won OBA, CCA and Comb Ave in Doagh & Dist and NIPA Bronze Diploma.
A & N Lewis: 4th North Sect & 4th Open INFC Skibbereen OB Nat 492/3,755 doing velocity 1619 and 7th North Sect & 7th Open INFC Skibbereen YB Nat 411/3,118 doing velocity 1537 winning total £510. Won Charles Hunniford Trophy in INFC and OB Inland Ave in Doagh & Dist.

In the 2009 Racing Season M/M B McNeilly won 8 x 1sts followed by J & A Wilson & Sons 6 x 1sts, A & N Lewis 3 x 1sts, M/M D Suitters 2 x 1sts and one win each for John Blair and William McClelland. A great season all round for Doagh & District and sorry it took so long to have it covered.
Doagh & District HPS will be having their Annual Moot in McConnells of Doagh on the 8th January, a date for the diary. The panel will be Brian & Ricky Hogg of Newtownbreda, East Down Combine Fancier of the Year 2004 and 2005, J & J Hollinger (Millisle) one of Irelands top long distance fliers, and Davy Campbell of Campbell & Bigger, (Glengormley), NIPA Section C Fancier of the Year 2008 and 2009. UK rep for Benzing will also be there giving a ETS demonstration and anyone wishing to purchase the Benzing ETS will be able to at the price of £198. There will also be a light supper and ballot, £5.00 per head to pay at door.
