5th Old Bird Race of the Season
The Ulster Federation were in Pilmore Beach for their 5th old bird race, with 73 members sending 1,467 birds.
The birds were liberated at 9:30am into a North North West wind, and it turned out to be a good steady race.
Leading the way was Arthur O’Hanlon of Fortfield HPS, timing a 2-year-old cheq cock now named “Birthday Boy”, with a velocity of 1380.023. This is Birthday Boy’s second win of the season, having already won 1st Club, 5th Federation Tullamore. He was bred by Arthur’s good friend Herbie Thorpe, being Stefaan Lambrechts crossed with DVDB & Leo Heremans bloodlines.
Arthur also finished 4th Federation with a yearling mealy cock, also bred by Herbie Thorpe. This cock has already won 2 x 1st in the Super6, collecting £500.
2nd Federation goes to last week’s Federation winner Kevin Doherty of Fortfield HPS, timing a good yearling hen with a velocity of 1379.622. This hen also won the 5 Bird Championship for Kevin as a young bird last season.
3rd Federation goes to A&A Ferran of Grosvenor HPS, with a velocity of 1378.219. Tony clocked a yearling blue cock, a direct son of their great racing and breeding cock “Cain”. This cock has now won 3 x 1st Clubs for A&A Ferran.
