Last weekend the NIPA enjoyed good racing again from Talbenny and Fermoy, not just as many birds away as the week previous but returns appear to be on par with the week earlier from Talbenny, maybe slightly better. We are on the run-up now to the end of old bird racing, at the weekend we have Bude and the Fermoy 5 Bird Championship followed by the two races from Penzance, then France. Last weekend we had sunshine and showers and the birds were released at 10.30am in Fermoy and 11.15am in Talbenny. First reports indicate that Donnelly Bros from Newry City will top the NIPA for the second race on the trot doing velocity 1605. Irish SR Fed were not so fortunate and had to contend with mist and low cloud not getting away until 1.30pm in Bude and 3.00pm in Mallow, the cross channel race especially was heavy going with birds timed until dark. The weather continues to give problems and the INFC have twice delayed race marking for the Yearling Nat due to be flown this Wednesday 9th June. As I write no definite plan has been set for the race, the early part of the week we were to have all sorts of weather problems. The weather forecasts for Wednesday and Thursday are for storm force north to north easterly winds with possible thunder storms, and heavy rain on the Irish Sea and poor visibility in coastal areas. It’s just a case of wait and see.
The Mid Antrim Combine was topped by M/M Robinson from Ahoghill doing velocity 1491 having timed at 15.32hrs followed by Stewart Bros 1st Randalstown (1472) and W & J Smyth 1st & 2nd Ballymena & Dist (1470). The Champions League is at the semi-final stage to be flown this weekend from Bude, the matches are Scott & Clements (Kells) v W & J Smyth (Ballymena) and A McBride (Harryville) v M Graham (Ballymena).

We have had some slight mistakes in recording the results each weekend, this is operated through an agency and results are supplied to me in block. I can fix and make the odd correction, it’s just impossible to check them all individually. Time is the big factor, we must meet various deadlines for many different publications, and can’t wait. It is important to be listed as early as possible, it’s best to have the results placed by the various clubs themselves, and space is available for some text and one photo for each result. The whole thing is a big team effort, if results are placed late it’s almost impossible to catch them. The amount of work is massive, over a short period of time, others will verify that, especially the ones doing the work.

This fantastic bird was winning for the fourth time this season, its record includes 1st Club Tullamore, 2nd Combine, and 4th Sect B 168/4,163; 1st Club Clonmel, 15th Comb, and 22nd Sect B 185/4,345; 1st Club Fermoy, 1st Comb, and 1st Sect B 185/4,318. This week he has 1st Comb and possibly 1st Sect again, what a great racer, and what a season to date for Allen McBride. We have had some slight mistakes in recording the results each weekend, this is operated through an agency and results are supplied to me in block. I can fix and make the odd correction, it’s just impossible to check them all individually. Time is the big factor, we must meet various deadlines for many different publications, and can’t wait. It is important to be listed as early as possible, it’s best to have the results placed by the various clubs themselves, and space is available for some text and one photo for each result. The whole thing is a big team effort, if results are placed late it’s almost impossible to catch them. The amount of work is massive, over a short period of time, others will verify that, especially the ones doing the work.
