“FIRST INTERNATIONAL PRESS REPORT”
THE 15th SUN CITY MILLION DOLLAR
(THE RACE WITH THE PROVEN TRACK RECORD)
(THE GREATEST PIGEON RACE IN THE WORLD)
DUE TO BE HELD IN SUN CITY, SOUTH AFRICA ON
SATURDAY 22nd JANUARY 2011.
REPORT ON THE 1st & 2nd PRE TRAINING RACES.
Well once again we are off and running for the fifteenth year on yet another race series for the Sun City Million Dollar Pigeon Race and after yet another world record entry of 6,613 pigeons entered from 36 different countries, which was made up of 5,641 International and 972 South African entries these pigeons then underwent numerous short training tosses before being entered into these early two Pre Training Races, which do not actually count for the Sun City Overall Average Award. However, as is usual in this type of racing before training actually starts many of these pigeons are actually lost during settling to the international lofts in Sun City and then quite a few more of course are then lost exercising around the lofts and during these numerous early short training tosses.
After a few months with very little information regarding what pigeons are still left in the lofts, mainly because all the information about every pigeon has to be added to the computer database, which I can assure you is in itself a truly massive task for the staff, the first official loft listing went on the SCMDPR Web Site on 13th October 2010 and this showed a total of 5,422 pigeons were still left in the lofts. This meant that 1,191 pigeons (18%) had already gone missing during settling to the lofts, daily exercising around the lofts and during the first few short training tosses. Going through my past records on this race it showed that last year 14.00% were lost and the year previous 16.65% went missing during this period. It was interesting to note that the United Kingdom Team had lost 91 pigeons which represented at 14.92% loss, which was lower than the average loss and our Irish Team had lost only 10 pigeons which represented 11.49% loss of their entry. As is usual in this sort of racing some countries seem to fair better than others but I did notice that one country had actually lost 24.84% of their original entry. It is always a problem when fanciers entry what they consider to be their best pigeons and unfortunately some of them get lost before the first official race, likewise some fanciers actually unfortunately lose all their entries prior to this first race and the only consolation for them is that they have is that they will get a “FREE ENTRY” into the 2012 SCMDPR. Any fancier that loses all of his team of three pigeons before the Final Race and paid their $25 Registration Fee will get a “FREE ENTRY” into the following SCMDPR providing of course none of these pigeons have won any of the Special Prize Money or Awards allocated during the 2010/11 race series. Every year it seems to happen to different fanciers and also from entries from different countries, so it really is hard to put your finger on what is actually going to happen each year, as we as entrants know and so do the race organisers as they of course would like every pigeon entered to go to the Final Race but however we all know that this is an impossible dream.
More daily training continued before the basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web site on Tuesday 19th October for the PRE TRAINING RACE 1, which was due to be held on Wednesday 20th October from 16km (approx. 10 miles) and this showed a total of 5,166 pigeons had been entered (a record enter for this race), which was made up by 4,370 International and 796 South African entries and included 485 from the United Kingdom Team and also 70 from our Irish counterparts. The convoy were liberated at 07-30 in fine and clear conditions, 26C (79F), with little to no wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).

Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all of these races to take place, if not they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is better and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has always been to get as many pigeons to the “FINAL RACE” on 22nd Janaury as possible and give all fanciers/competitors/entrants a fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”. Only races of 50km (approx. 31 miles) will count towards the Sun City Overall ACE PIGEON Averages, which has a total of three cash prizes of US$10,000 (approx. £6,666), US$5,000 (approx. £3,333) and US$2,500 (approx. £1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this category.

If you wish to enter any of these NOMINATIONS, you will have to have credit in your ASI Master Account. If you do not have credit then please forward funds to your Race Shipper so that this can be transferred to your Master Account in time to get your NOMINATIONS placed. Please do not leave it to the last minute to transfer funds as the transfer may not go through in time and this could result in your pigeon or pigeons not winning what they should be rewarded with.
THE CASCADE CHALLENGE was a new competition introduced last year and it created a great deal of interest. It is basically a SINGLE BIRD NOMINATION and any pigeon can be entered for just US$10 (approx. £6-66p) but the “POT OF GOLD” can only be won if one of the NOMINATED PIGEONS actually wins 1st OPEN, if not its like the National Lottery, it just rolls over to the following week until somebody finally wins the jackpot. You do not have to enter the same pigeon every race, the choice is yours. The Sun City Million Dollar web site will give you all the information you need to enter this competition. There is already a starting fund of US$3,028-50 (approx. £2,020) which was carried over from the 2009/10 race series. You can enter this competition starting on TRAINING RACE 2, then 6, 9, 10, 14, 15 & 18, plus CAR RACES 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and of course the FINAL RACE. SO WHY NOT HAVE AN EXTRA BIT OF FUN AND LITTLE GAMBLE?
GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED AND REGULAR “PRESS RELEASES”, “NEWSLETTERS” AND “UPDATES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL COMPETITORS/ENTRANTS AND SYNDICATE SHAREHOLDERS ON A WEEKLY BASIS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. ALSO WEEKLY “PRESS RELEASES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO BOTH OUR PIGEON PUBLICATIONS NAMELY THE “BHW” AND “”RP” PLUS IT WILL ALSO BE ON OUR WEB SITE www.scmdpr.com FOR ALL TO VIEW.
It will also be my fifteenth year of organising a “TRIP OF A LIFETIME” and I am also fairly positive that once again Sun International will be going out of their way to make sure everybody has a fantastic time in the fabulous Sun City Resort and as in past years I will as usual be organising a 10 day (7 nights) stay in the fantastic 5 star Cascades Hotel to watch and be part of this fantastic race and meet lots of top fanciers from literally all over the world, whilst the same time enjoying the fantastic South African scenery, weather, food, beer and of course the superb South African hospitality, so if you are genuinely interested please get in touch with me on 01279-812005 or my mobile 07860-568216 or email me on reglofts@aol.com as soon as possible because return flights and hotel accommodation will be at a premium. I already have a good number of pigeon fanciers travelling out with my group and I can personally guarantee you will be made most welcome if you decide to join our party.
*** EXTRA SPECIAL NOTICE*** One point that should be pointed out to all competitors and entrants is that only your NUMBER 1 pigeons is “ACTIVATED” (FULLY PAID UP ENTRY) with the other TWO (2) pigeons in each of your “TEAM OF 3” being your RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS. Another point worth mentioning is if you happened to lose your NUMBER 1 PIGEON, your NUMBER 2 PIGEON would replace it FREE OF CHARGE and likewise if you then lost your NUMBER 2 PIGEON, your NUMBER 3 PIGEON would then replace that one FREE OF CHARGE. If you were unlucky enough to lose all your entries of 3 pigeons in any of your “TEAMS” and they had won no “Special Prize Money” in the new 5 x Car Races then you are entitled to a “FREE ENTRY” into the 2012 SCMDPR, all you have to pay is the shipping/export costs. This of course represents great value for your money. All pigeons go to every training toss and Saturday races providing they are fit enough but can only compete for any of the allocated PRIZE MONEY or SPECIAL AWARDS in the 5 x CAR RACES if they are “ACTIVATED” and that means that these must be paid for prior to the CAR RACE 1, which is due to take place on Saturday 6th November 2010 from 140km (approx. 87 miles). The cost to “ACTIVATE” these “RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS” is US$1,000 but that will then entitle all these fully paid up pigeons to compete and be eligible to fly for all the extra cash prizes and special awards that amounts to close to US$300,000 (approx. £200,000). The one thing to remember is that once your reserve pigeon or pigeons are fully paid for, if then they get lost and have won no prize money or special awards in the Special Money Races, then you get this money refunded (less about US$15 (£10) for bank charges) or you can have it added to your ASI account, which can then be used to purchase another pigeon at a later date and be entered into the Final Race under your name or syndicate. So as you can see it is “BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY” and pay for them early, after all you have nothing to lose. HOW MANY OTHER RACES IN THE WORLD OFFER THIS OPTION TO COMPETITORS AND ENTRANTS?
*****ACTIVATION OF YOUR RESERVES***** Please get in touch with me as soon as possible on 01279-812005 or my mobile 07860-568216 or email reglofts@aol.com and tell me which ones you want to “ACTIVATE”. If you want all your pigeons to be eligible to fly for all the “Special Prize Money” and “Special Awards” during the 5 x CAR RACES, then it really is advisable to do them before the CAR RACE 1. See above for information as you really have nothing to lose.
I would also just like to notify fanciers that my weekly “INTERNATIONAL PRESS RELEASE”, “NEWSLETTERS” and “UPDATES” can now also be seen on the following pigeon web sites:- www.iprr.co.uk www.elimarpigeons.com www.pigeonportal.com www.pigeonglobe.co.uk www.cyberpigeon.co.uk www.pigeonbasics.com www.pigeoncare.nl www.star-pigeons.com plus of course they will also be in the “”BRITISH HOMING WORLD” and “THE RACING PIGEON” for all to see.
If you have any questions about any aspect of the SUN CITY MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE, then please contact me as soon as possible on 01279-812005 or my mobile 07860-568216 or email me on reglofts@aol.com and I will do my best to answer any of your questions or queries.
IF ANY PIGEON FANCIER IN THE UNITED KINGDOM OR IRELAND WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE MY WEEKLY “INTERNATIONAL PRESS RELEASES”, “NEWSLETTERS” AND “UPDATES” BY EMAIL, THEN ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS EMAIL ME THEIR ACTUAL EMAIL ADDRESS AND I WILL FORWARD THEM ALL THE INFORMATION BY EMAIL ON A REGULAR BASIS.
*****SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL COMPETING FANCIERS***** I LIKE TO GIVE ALL ENTRANTS THE CREDIT THEY TRULY DESERVE WHEN THEIR PIGEON OR PIGEONS GET IN THE RESULTS. I CAN ONLY PUT DOWN THE INFORMATION I HAVE ON FILE IN MY DATABASE AND SOMETIMES OF COURSE THAT IS INCORRECT OR OUT OF DATE, SO PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A PIGEON OR PIGEONS ENTERED IN THIS RACE, LET ME HAVE YOUR CHRISTEN NAME AND THE TOWN YOU LIVE IN SO I CAN THEN GIVE YOU THE CREDIT YOU AND YOUR PIGEON OR PIGEONS DESERVE WHEN YOU DO WELL. EITHER JUST EMAIL ME YOUR FULL DETAILS TO reglofts@aol.com OR CALL ME ON 01279-812005 AND THEN I CAN UPDATE MY DATABASE WITH YOUR CORRECT DETAILS.
GOOD LUCK to all concerned in TRAINING RACE 1 which takes place on Wednesday 27th October.

NOMINATION RACES will be held on TRAINING RACES 2, 6, 9, 10, 14, 15 and 18, plus CAR RACES 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and of course the FINAL RACE. All these races will have US$1, US$2, US£5, US$10, US$20 & US$50 REGIONAL and US$1, US$2, US$5, US$10, US$20, US$50 & US$100 GLOBAL NOMINATIONS which can be placed on the Sun City Million Dollar Web Site.
